Final episode time. Wow it was a rollercoaster to get here. Liveblog style.
No chronica or domina, a bit sad about that but its fine.
The plants uniting all humans <3 love it <3 wish we coulda gotten the Knives Experiencing Their Memories too instead of just Tesla’s. To show that humans can be kind too. But. Mmmm time constraints I’m guessing.
GOOD RIDDANCE TO CONRAD. THE BASTARD.
Finally instead of fighting each other they’re actually trying to finally listen to each other. And its… a little cheese but I think we need that.
…..Vash returning to Hoppered’s (/Lina and Sheryl’s if it was the manga) house… the grave for hoppered. Oh my god studio orange just tear my heart out with your bare hands why dont you.
Livio calling Vash “Vash-nii” instead of “Vash-san”…. Livio was there for the Vashwood wedding and is so letting us know it happened /silly
STOP CUTTING THIS MAN’S BEAUTIFUL LONG HAIR.
Vash running away <3 like in the manga… except wolfwood is here now. And its..
ok. Ill admit. Im crying.
Dubisode thoughts: “no one wants to understand hate, they just wanna do it” thats all i’ll fucking say. Dubisode rocked.
So, Trigun Stargaze wasn’t all good. I loved it to pieced but I will agree with the majority: A lot felt rushed. A lot of characters felt empty because lack of backstory (legato, but I’m kinda glad they didn’t show his backstory because with how the fandom has been recently, people would have said some horrid things about him. I make fun of him a lot but I genuinely love him as a character, no matter the adaptation.) It felt like a lot of what they wanted to show got cut. Probably due to time constraints. Or budget. Or even staffing.
But we all have to remember that Studio Orange isn’t some big studio like, MAPPA, or something, they’re still relatively new, finding their footing, their styles, and I think we got a story that they really loved and wanted to tell.
They, like all of us, see the world falling to shit, they see everyone at each other’s throats constantly, and they wanted to tell a version of Trigun where “what if everything worked out, what if we could all go into our future and choose to be good? Despite what we’ve done in our pasts? What if we choose to hope for a better future? What if we didn’t have to lose the people we love for that future? What if, just this once, we could all be happy.” and I think that’s beautiful.
Because in the end, thats what Trigun as a whole has always been. A story of hope. It comes in many formats; Hope In Spite Of Pain, Hope and Pain Coexisting, Whatever the fuck Badlands Rumble was about, and now.. Hope when pain has healed. Hope when we choose to take a deep breath, steady ourselves, and rely on the people we love.
Call me sappy, call me whatever you like, I’ve always been a Trigun fan, and Stargaze (and stampede) both encompassed the same things I felt when I read Trimax for the first time, or how I felt when I was a kid watching Tri98 for the first time.
We needed a story where finally, something went right. In a world that is constantly in a cycle of “Things getting better before they get drastically worse.”
Or at least. Maybe thats what I needed. Maybe I’m biased, maybe I’m blind, but.. we’re simple creatures who need hope, and love, and community to keep going.
I’ll keep y’all updated on the powerpoint and video essay encompassing all of Trigun, and I hope you all have a wonderful day.
