When I was young, I used to live in one of those huge, mazy mansions people always seem to envy. I remember most of the children in my class being jealous of my gigantic house, and even adults never failed to make comments about my family’s excessive - as they called it - wealth.
To me, that house was not so magical and valuable. Only recently have I realized I despised it, if anything because of the constant, neverending fights that took place in it. My family had never, for all I can remember, been united, hence the atmosphere at ‘home’ was never comfortable.
During those fights, I would do my best to alienate myself from my parents, in whatever way I could, and after a few failed attempts, I finally resolved to exploring the mansion whilst they were busy screaming and throwing things at each other.
This was how I found that room. The third room on the left side of the corridor, in the second floor. The day I stumbled upon the worn-looking door, I remember, there had been more yelling than usual, and two crystal glasses were sent flying against the wall just as I rushed through the kitchen and made my way upstairs. By the time I was fidgeting with the handle, I was still shaking, on the verge of crying, and didn’t really care where I ended up. It turned out, after some minutes, that I was in an old, yet fancy-looking bedroom, decorated with a bed, a bedside table, and an oval shaped mirror.
In that moment, I saw him.
There was a face in the mirror. It was pale, tired-looking, with wide green eyes that stared back at me. I checked around-- no one was in the room. But I didn’t scream or yell, didn’t cry, because the man had already begun talking, trying to soothe me, trying to make me forget about the fights going on downstairs, about the bleeding scratch I got after stepping on a shard of crystal, and in the mind of an eight-year old, sad boy, there was nothing wrong with this.
I began going into that room more. I would go there after, or during, a fight, or simply whenever I needed a friend to talk to -- he was always, without fail, there. The man in the mirror never once left me alone, unlike my family.
Then, one day, my parents disappeared. People said it was an accident, and that their bodies couldn’t be found anywhere. I began seeing the man more after that -- he began appearing even more often, and not only in that mirror in the third room on the left side of the corridor in the second floor, but in all the mirrors, windows, screens, in the house. Whenever I saw my reflection next to me, he was there.
There have been more accidents recently. No one is by my side anymore, but the man in the mirror.
Even now, while I’m typing this, he’s staring right back at me through the reflection on the screen.
The room is small, dark and suffocating. The divans are undone, messy, dirty with every kind of dust and ash; and most of the few remaining people are sprawled and distended over the fitted carpet, consumed and tired and absolutely dirty.
Amidst the chaos of dirt and limbs and fog, are two men. Neither of them fully recall how it began, but neither of them care - not when they are entangled together, searching and touching for the very same thrill that brought them to that filthy opium den that night.
One of them, a man of good family and rich heritage, is still holding his long pipe between his fingers. There’s still opium in it, and the vapour slowly leaves the tube in favour of a slow and tiring adventure through the air - but the man, Arthur Kirkland, doesn’t mind. He cannot mind, anyway; not when he has a pair of lips over his own, open and soft and so slow it hurts a little. The man against him moves so languidly, touches his hip, straddles him and moves, he keeps moving until their heads are spinning and he’s not sure if it’s because of the drug, the heat of the oil lamps or the lack of breath they’re both experiencing as their lips refuse to break apart.
And while they rest and seek elation into each other’s arms, the smoke is still there. It’s clinging onto their rich clothes, infecting the fabric of the divans and hugging them with a sensual embrace that resembles the interlacement and feeble movement of their limbs.
The pipe is still lit up, and the night is still long.
It’s never been easy to make your dreams come true, that’s a fact. But if you work enough and fill yourself with hope and confidence, there’s nothing that can stop you.
Alfred F. Jones knew it all too well. The years he spent between physics books and exhausting trainings had seemed endless back then, but he didn’t care anymore - because in that very moment, his dream was coming true.
A lifetime of fatigue just for this moment. It was pure perfection - he was now alone, floating among the stars in his little and sturdy space shuttle. He felt his breath hitch in his throat, his eyes begin to wet with moisture, his lips stretch in an unbelievably bright smile.
There was nothing he desired anymore. Alfred just wanted to be left there to enjoy himself and the stars’ company. Nothing mattered now - the yells of his father when he told him he wouldn’t become a doctor, the cries of his ex-girlfriend when he told her he would go on a mission that would last three years, the amused looks on his professors’ face when they told him he could never reach the stars.
But he made it. His life was complete.
The boy’s considerations were interrupted by a dull sound of static. Alfred sighed - a good way to ruin the mood indeed - and was almost tempted to let the radio buzz alone for another while instead of picking it up.
However, he couldn’t let the whole nation believe he was dead just because he was busy being an old man.
“Ground control to Alfred Jones. Is it all right up there? It took long for you to answer.”
Alfred frowned. What an odd an unprofessional way to talk during a mission. “It’s alright, ah, I was just... distracted. Hey, why aren’t you Jack? Isn’t he supposed to hold the public conversations with me?”
A laugh. Alfred may have imagined it, but he thought it sounded truly good. “This is a private conversation. I’m here to keep you company.”

Hola soy Riyi!
AHHHH RIYI! (/;A;)/ SI REGRESASTE ...
OMG ¿del 18 al 22? ¡yo tengo los issues hasta el 21 ... !
