I have been avoiding the cosmere tags because I STILL have yet to read rhythm of war despite getting a copy when it first came out but I am rereading stormlight (currently 2/3 of the way through words of radiance) before wind and truth and let me tell you when I get caught up!! I will be unstoppable

#my partner is planning to read the series but hasn't yet so i am bouncing off the walls wanting to talk about it and not being able to #it's so fun going back through these 1) because i know secrets now and get to see the foreshadowing and reexamine how character reached #their later points but also 2) i am a different person than when i first read these books back before oathbringer released! the ways that i #relate to or feel about characters and whatnot has shifted! and it's fascinating to see what does or doesn't resonate now compared to then #i love these books so much #cosmere #stormlight archive #riz speaks

venting about medical stuff under the cut

something nonstop frustrating to me with the health condition stuff is that i just. really have no idea what sort of urgency am i supposed to be in. like. ssdi is like. wait 3 years. maybe we'll say yeah. my drs go. we need you in urgently! heres a soon appointment. and then are like.... mm we dont actually think we can help you. but that er trip did suck huh. heres the referral. like. and its like.when i was told hey! come in for a neuro appt. ur brains slipping thru ur head hole and theres a cyst in the neck vertebrae they were like.... well ur symptoms dont match up well enough.... not sure operating will help.

and its like. ive had to start asking for the level of urgency. bc i genuinely dont know what rush im supposed to be in. i dont know what i need to expect. should i be concerned for my recovery? my current moments? my life? what should i be worrying about. a couple months i thought i was gonna die soon bc of a rly scary new diagnosis that went back to the drawing board bc a rheum had a stick so far up his ass that he literally went. i do not see it. and now were playing the elim game.

so ive started asking. now its like. heart problems and i was like. being patient advocate per usual. ive gotten good at it. bc ive stretched the muscle to death and im tired. and i was like. well whats the urgency for this. what should i concern myself with. and he was like. "well... its somewhere in between do something immediately and dont let this sit for two years" and so im like okay then im assuming that means? lets get this moving. and then the cardiologist takes a vacation for two months (?) and doesnt respond to my labs for.... prob gonna be 20 days bc he gets back from vacay this weekend....... and no one switched his caseload or bothered to tell me that he was on vacation.... and would have to wait for the results of all the tests that were done........ okay............. what urgency is this again.

#riz speaks #having many specialists and things going on and im genuinely so confused bc its like. theyll be like. hi here are our findings.#these are concerning! and im like. so youll treat me for it right. and you know why its happening right. and theyre like :) . . . . . .

this is hard to explain and quantify in a meaningful way bc i dont entirely have the words together but i feel in current media depictions of women, even in ones that are considered good, there's an aspect where they have to eschew being a mother, daughter, or sister in order to be a Cool or Proficient character. whereas male counterparts are still fathers, sons, and brothers and thats not their only character trait and they have plot activity outside of being those things.

and i know its a thing about how female characters are often shafted into side roles and stuff, or even if theyre the focal point theyre the aimless dead wife, but even in the cases where its like. Wow Look At Her! shes a Skilled and Powerful girl with a sword (and she has no emotional depth bc she has to be a stoic bc Having an Emotion, thats a womans trait oops. however she'll always have love interests tho)

#riz speaks #i consider cool fighting girl with no depth a part of the girlbossification characterization thing but.#idk. i have a lot of thoughts on it. theres prob more examples of it but i was reminded bc thinking about it in a dragon story context #amara tucked in the protag for bed before running off to save the twin rathalos and committing treason.#in httyd2 after her husbands death valka speaks about how hiccup was a preemie and how she was frightened he wouldnt survive.#and that his father never doubted his ability to survive is the emotional driving point after his death.#i think writing good women is bent on a writers willingness to engage with the very average and sometimes tender things in a meaningful way #and then allowing them to still be dynamic enough to engage in the more whimsical and dramatic things of a story.#yeah. anyways. pitbull standing png. hope you enjoyed it
