Rizumo Week Day 1: Hellfire
It was girls night. Izumo sat on a plush purple rug that covered the hard wooden floor on their common room. The dormitories at True Cross we’re all designed a little differently. Her’s had four bedrooms all sharing a common area.
There was a modest living room with a couch and TV, and a kitchenette used to cook simple meals. Right now Izumo sat on the rug, sorting through DVDs they laid scattered in front of her. Her roommate, Paku, was popping popcorn while her other friend, Shiemi, sat beside her.
The young blonde was currently getting grilled with questions by Paku.
“So Shiemi, how are things going with Rin?”
Izumo glanced up from the pile of movies to eye the girl in question. She knew Paku would bring up boys because why wouldn’t she? But there was something about the question that made Izumo tense and apparently it had the same effect of Shiemi because the jovial girl was now still.
“Rin is okay, I guess?” She sounded confused.
“She means are you dating him yet.” Izumo clarified, then turned to Paku and answered for her. “No, she’s not.” Izumo’s answer came out more pointed than she would have liked. Luckily Shiemi was too preoccupied trying to form a sentence to think twice about Izumo’s response.
“I-I’m not…dating…Rin.” Shiemi finally stuttered out sheepishly.
Paku looked between the two girls. One was extremely embarrassed and the other looked like fumes would rise over her head soon. Both red-faced for entirely different reasons. Interesting, Paku noted.
Paku carried the bowl of popcorn to where the girls sat and joined them on the rug.
“Okay, you aren’t dating Rin.” She finalized before adding, “but do you want to?”
Izumo balled her hands into fists and gritted her teeth. She wanted to change the subject but part of her morbid curiosity kept her silent as she waited for Shiemi’s reply.
Shiemi pushed up her legs and buried her face in her knees. “I don’t know.” She mumbled in her legs, but both girls heard it.
“What’s holding you back?” Paku asked.
“I…I don’t know.” Shiemi muttered. “Rin is nice. He’s my friend. On our last mission together, I got to feel his flames and they were so warm but they didn’t hurt. They made me feel safe. But then he told me how he feels about me. That he wants to be more than friends but I…I think I just want to be his friend.”
Both Izumo and Paku were stunned by this confession. Neither had realized Rin had actually confessed to the girl.
“But if you like Rin, why not date him?” Izumo asked the question before she could stop herself.
“Because of you, Izumo.” Shiemi finally looked up. Izumo stiffened. Was she really saying what she thought she was saying?
“You showed me what romance is supposed to feel like with all those stories. And I…I just don’t feel that for Rin.”
Izumo let a sigh of relief.
“I don’t think I feel that way about anyone…” Shiemi mumbled the last part almost to herself. Her eyes dropped down and she looked saddened by this realization. Luckily Paku always seemed to know what to do.
She gave Shiemi a small hug and told her it was okay. “You don’t have to feel that way about anyone, Shiemi. We all experience love differently.”
Izumo nodded in agreement. This seemed to make Shiemi feel a bit better. It also somehow made Izumo feel better.
Like a heavy weight was lifted off her shoulders. She replayed Shiemi’s confession in her mind and there was a detail that caught her attention.
“So you’ve felt Rin’s flames?”
It wasn’t really the point of the story, but Izumo was curious.
“Mhm.” Shiemi hummed.
“And they didn’t burn you?”
“Nope. They were warm, but not hot. It was like the feeling of the sun when I work in the garden.”
Like the feeling of the sun. Izumo stored that new detail away for later. That was the end of boy talk for the evening.
2 Years Later
Kissing Rin was always a new experience for her. They have kissed several times since they started dating, but each one was unique and unlocked new feelings neither had ever felt before.
This time the kiss begged for something more. It started simple. They were on his couch, alone. He had leaned in first and she admits she was eager to meet him. The kiss was sweet and slow. But then his tongue grazed her bottom lip and acting on reflex she opened her mouth.
His tongue dived in she could taste the lingering mint of his mouthwash. Something about his taste was addicting and she craved more. The distance between them quickly closed as she pushed her onto his lap, straddling his hips.
A normal man might have groaned in pleasure, but Rin instead let out a deep-throated growl. She could feel it rumbled in his chest. The sound made something inside her awaken. For the first time, she felt herself growl back. Her’s was higher pitched and nearly sounded like a hiss. The bizarre sound didn’t seem to deter him though. It only made him growl louder, tugging at her hips possessively. Then suddenly they were both wrapped up in unholy blue.
This was enough to make Izumo pull back, eyes wide with alarm.
Her eyes darted across her body that was now covered in dancing blue flames. Rin was too, but that part wasn’t unusual. Rin looked as surprised as she was, but more so in awe than in fear.
Izumo’s heart was racing. She was covered in Satan’s fire! But…it didn’t burn.
She recalled a faint memory of Shiemi describing Rin’s flames.
“It feels like the sun.”
Izumo agreed that they were warm, but for her it felt like being wrapped in a heated blanket. Warm and secure. After the shock wore off, she realized she wasn’t scared anymore.
Rin was watching her with dark blue eyes. She understood that this was far more intimate than anything they have ever done before. The flames danced around them in unison. In this moment, they were one.
Izumo looked back at Rin’s eyes. He was waiting for her. He wanted to see if she would accept this or end it.
Izumo was no quitter.
She lifted her hands to caress his face and slowly brought it to hers. They shared a lingering kiss before Izumo sank down to his chest and curled up on him. His arms wrapped around her protectively. She listened to the sound of his heartbeat and fell asleep in the warmth and safety of his flames. She was his now and she hoped it would last forever.
