Did you know that abortion is STILL not accessible in New Brunswick?  

The government only funds abortions performed in three hospitals (two in Moncton, one in Bathurst), and only up to 13 weeks.  Clinic 554 in Fredericton offers abortion services until 16 weeks but is not funded by the government, and the cost (as much as $850) is prohibitive for many.

RJNB has launched a new campaign urging politicians to remove all barriers to access.  Abortion services need to be offered throughout the province and fully funded.  NB Regulation 84-20, schedule 2 states:  “The following are deemed not to be entitled services:  (a.1) abortion, unless the abortion is performed in a hospital facility approved by the jurisdiction in which the hospital facility is located”.  RJNB demands the removal of this restriction.

Abortion fight moves to New Brunswick

FREDERICTON, N.B. - New Brunswick has become Canada's latest abortion battleground, as a lobby group pressures the provincial government to fund the procedure at private clinics.

The government said recently it won't cover abortions outside three hospitals, even before Reproductive Justice New Brunswick officially launched its campaign urging them to expand funding.

The group's spokeswoman, Allison Webster, said New Brunswick is the only province where abortions are available in clinics but not covered by medicare.

She said Premier Brian Gallant vowed during the 2014 election campaign to remove all barriers to abortion access, and they want the Liberal government to follow through.

“We're really just trying to rebuild momentum and to let people know that we're still fighting to improve access to abortion services in New Brunswick,” said Webster ahead of the campaign launch Thursday evening in Fredericton.

“Abortions services are still not adequate within the province. There remain a lot of barriers.”
