Right Kind of Wrong - Chapter 5
Hey! It’s been awhile. Real life and a new project have taken over my life. Don’t worry though, this story will be completed! Here is chapter five...things get, interesting :)
------
Felicity huffed as she threw another shirt on the growing pile of discarded clothes that were building up on her bed.
“It's not going to matter what you wear,” Iris told her with a laugh. “He’s not going to care.”
“He might not care,” Felicity answered. “But I do. And nothing is good enough.”
“Well something is going to have to be good enough. It's not like you have time to go shopping.”
“Ugh!”
“What are your plans? Maybe that’ll help narrow down your clothing choices.”
“We didn't like make official plans,” Felicity admitted with a sigh. “There is a new restaurant downtown that Cooper mentioned, uh, Table Salt, I think.”
“Really? How did Cooper get a reservation there?”
Felicity shrugged, “I'm not sure he did.”
“Then I doubt you’ll be going there,” Iris chuckled. “I've heard there is like a six month wait to get a reservation. It's so impossible.”
“Oh,” Felicity replied with a laugh. “There is always that Chinese place we like. It doesn't really matter to me. I'm just…”
“Nervous?”
“No, not really. I'm just ready to get it over with I guess. The build up is overrated.”
Felicity turned from the closest to Iris and flung the sweater in her hand around. “God, that's...horrible, isn't it? Just wanting to it over with? I feel bad for Cooper…”
“Oh yes, I'm sure he’s so upset about that.”
The sarcasm was thick in Iris’s voice and Felicity whacked her with the sweater she was still holding.
“Hey!” Iris cried as she protect her computer. “I'm just saying that he’s not complaining...so it's pointless to feel weird about it.”
“True.”
“But you shouldn't put any pressure on yourself about tonight. If it doesn't happen…”
“It's happening…”
“Just...Felicity…”
“I'm ready Iris,” she insisted with a nod as she pulled her favorite black dressy sweater over her head. “I am and it's happening tonight. Once I leave the room will be yours for the night.”
“Okay,” Iris answered with a grin. “You've got everything you need. You won't need to come back to the room for a toothbrush or condom?”
Felicity shook her head as she slipped her feet into a sparkly pair of pink flats. She slipped her favorite earrings in her ears. “Everything I'll need tonight is already in my purse. I promise I'll be out of your hair soon.”
“No worries,” Iris assured her with a grin. “Barry has a late lab tonight anyways, he won't be around for awhile.”
“What are you guys doing tonight?”
“Probably studying,” Iris answered. “And fucking. Definitely fucking.”
Felicity rolled her eyes and grabbed her phone when it went off. Cooper was downstairs in the lobby waiting for her. She checked herself in the mirror and typed a quick message back before turning to Iris. “Well have fun. I'll see you sometime tomorrow.”
“Have fun! Make sure he makes you come before he does!”
“Iris!”
“Figured a little advice wouldn't be a bad thing.”
“You're as bad as Sara! She was giving me all sorts of unsolicited sex advice this week.”
“Her’s was probably a little crazy…”
“Duh,” Felicity answered with a chuckle. “Okay, I really have to go. Coop’s waiting downstairs.”
“See you tomorrow!”
Felicity waved goodbye as she grabbed her purse from her desk and headed towards the elevator at the end of the hall. She greeted a few friends as she went by and promised a classmate they’d go over the reading before the next class before she slipped into the elevator and pressed the button for the lobby. She fluffed her long blonde hair as she examined her appearance in the reflective surface of the wall and took a deep breath as the doors opened to the lobby.
The communal lobby of Felicity’s dorm was buzzing with normal Saturday night activity. She nodded hello to some acquaintances in the lounge section and headed towards the door. The cool October air hit her and she pulled her jacket tighter around her body. Her eyes roamed the parking area and she paused when she saw Cooper talking to a girl from her building.
Helena had a reputation around campus for being a bit overzealous when it came to men. Felicity paused to observe their interaction and she couldn't help but think that Helena looked pissed.
She walked slowly up to them and overheard the last bit of Helena’s tirade towards her boyfriend who looked impasse towards the whole thing.
“...you're such a jackass Cooper, I can't believe I thought you…”
“Hey Cooper,” Felicity greeted as she plastered a smile on her face. “Helena.”
“Oh, Felicity…” Helena greeted with a smirk. “I didn't know you and Cooper were a thing.”
“We are,” Felicity answered with a shrug and a smile. “We’ve been dating for a couple months now.”
Helena looked between them with a glare. “How nice. Well...I should be going. Have a good night.”
Felicity nodded as she let Cooper lead her to his car, an old BMW that he loved more than anything. Felicity always laughed, but he was incredibly particular about his car.
“So what was that all about?” Felicity questioned as soon as they pulled away from the curb.
“What was what about?”
“Helena calling you a jackass and looking ridiculously upset.”
“Oh that,” Cooper answered with a shrug. “It was just a physics thing.”
“Physics?”
“Yeah,” Cooper continued. “We got paired up on this stupid lab thing and she was not thrilled with my section.”
“Oh…”
Cooper glanced at her quickly before turning his attention back to the road and slipping his hand into hers. “Told you it was stupid.”
“Yeah…”
When they pulled up to a stoplight Cooper leaned over and pressed his lips against hers gently. “You look gorgeous babe. I'm looking forward to tonight.”
Felicity beamed at him, “thanks Coop. And me too.”
---
“I still don't understand how you got a reservation here,” Felicity commented as they walked into the new, upscale restaurant in downtown Starling City. “Iris said there is like a six month wait for a reservation.”
“I know a guy,” Cooper replied with a chuckle. “I wanted to see what all the hype was about.”
“You know a guy?”
“It's like a friend of a friend of a friend kind of situation,” Cooper explained with a smile. “That’s all.”
“Well this is pretty awesome,” Felicity said as she looked around the new restaurant. “Thanks for bringing me.”
Cooper leaned in and placed a kiss against her lips. “You bet. We have a little wait before our reservation, want to get a drink at the bar?”
“Sure,” Felicity agreed quickly and let him lead her to the bar by their linked hands. They ordered their drinks, a glass of red wine for Felicity and an IPA for Cooper. They chatted about classes and roommates and nonsense until the pager Cooper was given, buzzed letting them know their seats were ready. After getting a refill on drinks they headed towards their table. “I’ve heard everything is good here,” Cooper told her as they browsed the menu. “Nothing but rave reviews.”
“Are you sure about this? The prices are a little…”
“Don’t worry about that,” Cooper insisted with a shrug. “I’ve got it.” “Cooper…”
“Trust me Felicity,” Cooper assured her and grabbed her hand and squeezed. “Just enjoy tonight, okay?”
“Okay.”
Felicity relaxed and picked up the menu again to look it over. She felt a gaze on her and she looked up at Cooper with a smile but he was looking down at his phone, typing furiously. She couldn’t help but glance around the spacious, buzzing room with interest trying to see if she could find what had made her feel like she was being watched.
And she found it.
In a pair of familiar, sparkling blue eyes.
Oliver.
His eyes were on her and his gaze was intense. It made her fidget in her seat which caught Cooper’s attention. “You okay babe?”
Felicity looked over at him startled and took a long drink of her wine before answering, “Oh, I’m fine. Have you decided on what you’re going to order?”
She glanced back over to Oliver and his lips were pressed together in a tight line. He looked, upset, almost and Felicity flashed an equally tight smile his way in greeting. His jaw flexed, his lips not parting and his eyes not leaving hers. It was overwhelming.
He wasn’t alone at the table and after some movement from his dinner date, Felicity finally looked at the goddess he was dining with, whose skin-tight black dress and sky-high fuck me red heels sent the message perfectly to Felicity. He was on a date. With an age-appropriate woman who looked bored as hell as she typed away on her phone. Felicity chewed on her bottom lip in anxiousness.
“I think I’m going to get a steak, you?”
“There is a cajun pasta dish I’m eying,” Felicity answered, after tearing her gaze away from Oliver’s. “I just have to make sure there are no nuts or peanut oil.”
Cooper turned back towards his phone. “Make sure you ask the waiter.”
“I will…”
“Good.”
“Are you going to spend all night on your phone?” Felicity asked, her irritation edging out.
“What?”
“You’ve been on your phone since we sat down,” Felicity told him firmly. “I had hoped tonight would be...special, I guess. I know that’s cliche.”
“It’s not,” Cooper replied with a sigh. “I’m sorry babe, you’re right. I haven’t been very attentive and I’m sorry about that…”
“I just…”
“Hello,” the waiter said as he approached the table. “I’m Alex and I’ll be your server tonight. Are you ready to order?”
Cooper looked over to Felicity who, with a terse smile, nodded. Cooper turned back towards the waiter, “It looks like we are.”
“Great,” Alex replied and pulled out his notebook. “What can I get for you tonight.”
They ordered their food and waited until the waiter walked away to resume the conversation. Felicity was thankful that Cooper’s phone stayed untouched on the table. She allowed herself to fall back into a happy conversation until her phone buzzed in her bag. She pulled it out and kept it hidden under the table as she checked the message.
Are you spending the night with him tonight?
Felicity froze.
The audacity of that stupid man. She barked out a strained laugh.
“Felicity?” Cooper questioned, “Everything all right?”
She nodded, “Yeah, sorry. It was Sara just complaining about our boss. Apparently he knocked over an entire pan of the pastries and made her pick them up. She’s screaming expletives at me about him.”
“It’s fine,” Cooper assured her with a chuckle. “That prick needs to be fired. You complain about him all the time.”
“He’ll never be fired,” Felicity complained with a shrug. “But thankfully I won’t be working there for too much longer.”
“Right,” Cooper agreed with a smile. “You start your internship soon.”
“Well, soonish.”
“You’ll do great.”
“Thanks, I’m excited.”
Felicity’s phone buzzed again and she opened it quickly. It was another message from Oliver.
Are you?
Felicity gripped her tightly, her annoyance shining through causing Cooper to watch her curiously.
“Babe?”
“I’m fine,” Felicity replied automatically. “I just need to reply to Sara before she blows up my phone more.”
“Go for it.”
Maybe I’ve already spent the night with him. Maybe we’re just breaking to refuel between a long and intense fucking marathon Dr. Queen.
His answer was almost instantaneous.
You should be careful Miss Smoak.
Felicity tucked her phone back in her purse and finished off her glass of wine in a swallow. Cooper watched her carefully.
“You’re sure you’re okay?” he questioned. “You look a little flushed.”
“I’m fine.”
“Okay,” he replied. “I’m going to run to the restroom before the food gets here. I’ll be right back.”
“Sounds good.”
Felicity watched as Cooper disappeared down the hallway leading to the bathrooms and then her eyes moved over to Oliver’s table, only he was no longer sitting there. His dinner partner was still at the table in all of her appeared indifference.
“Another glass of wine,” Alex said as he set down the glass in front of her. “And your dinner will be out shortly.”
“I didn’t order this…”
“Your date did,” the waiter informed her before he slipped away. Felicity eyed the glass and then took another sip of wine. She definitely needed some food soon before all the wine she was drinking went straight to her head. She watched Oliver’s date as she sipped on her martini and continued to check her phone.
Alex deposited their meals to the table and Felicity watched the hallway waiting for Cooper who had been gone for much longer than she had anticipated. She sipped her wine, deciding to wait until Cooper returned before she started her meal.
When she glanced towards the bathrooms again she was surprised to see Oliver, not Cooper, coming from the hallway, his face tight. He walked purposely towards his table, but instead of sitting down to rejoin his date he pulled out some bills from his wallet and tossed them on the table while he spoke quietly to the woman he was with. Oliver lead her out of the restaurant without looking back in Felicity’s direction once.
Felicity took another gulp of wine and then munched on a crouton from her side salad. Felicity studied her phone, scrolling through her facebook feed when she felt someone in her personal space and looked up with a smile, expecting Cooper to be there to steal a kiss before he took his seat.
She was surprised to say the least when she found herself looking into Oliver’s eyes instead.
“Oliver...what? Where is Cooper?”
“Your date had to leave,” he informed her sternly. “Get up, I’m driving you home.”
