we just got one our finale pieces in choir. surprisingly, my first thought was not about how this is my graduating song, but about how shockingly resonant the lyrics are with RnS.
if you're interested, i highly encourage finding it on youtube and listening along while reading - it's a gorgeous piece
(The Awakening - Joseph M. Martin)
A silent dream of a land not far away
And teardrops fell like rain
I dreamed a dream, a silent dream (I dreamed a dream, a silent dream)
I dreamed a dream of a land so filled with pride
That ev'ry song, both weak and strong
Withered, withered and died
And no choir sang to change the world (I dreamed a dream)
No pipers played, no dancers twirled (I dreamed a dream)
A silent dream (A silent dream)
Awake awake! (Awake awake!)
Awake awake! (Awake awake!)
Awake awake! (Awake awake!)
Awake awake! (Awake awake!)
Awake, awake my soul and sing
The time for praise has come
The silence of the night has passed
Let music never die in me
Forever let my spirit sing
Wherever emptiness is found
Let there be joy and glorious sound
Let music never die in me
Forever let my spirit sing
Let all our voices join as one
To praise the Giver of the song
(i apologize for the lyric dump)
What a beautiful song! There's so much peace and exultation. It feels like the kind of music that would play during the opening credits of an animated movie from the 60s-80s. It RnS were a Don Bluth style animation...
