Friends, I’m here to talk to you today about medical cannabis. This delightful photo was taken this summer near Yosemite, while I posed with my medicine in the state of California (where it’s 100% legal for anyone over 21 to possess and consume). * I regularly consume medical cannabis - either in smoke or edibles - because of how much it helps to alleviate the nausea and aches caused by stage 4 cancer and the chemotherapy I have to take to stay alive. The tumors in my bones shattered my spine in 2020, so most pain medication simply doesn’t work. Continued use of CBD-rich cannabis helps my pain when nothing else does. But in order for me to travel; I have to risk breaking the law in some states, because there is no national medical marijuana law that allows me to bring my medicine everywhere I go. * For example, this summer I traveled through California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. In all but one of those states, my medicine was fully legal. In Idaho, where I only traveled for about 75 miles, it was a felony that would land me in prison for a long time. It’s terrifying to travel under these circumstances. * This year, a federal bill was introduced to reduce cannabis to a schedule 3 (from a schedule 1) drug. A schedule I controlled substance is a drug, substance, or chemical that has a high potential for abuse; that has no currently accepted medical use; and that is subject to regulatory controls and administrative, civil, and criminal penalties under the Controlled Substances Act. A schedule III controlled substance is a drug, substance, or chemical that has less potential for abuse than a schedule I or II substance; that has a currently accepted medical use; and that has low or moderate risk of dependence if abused. * There is a lot of reform that needs to happen; including nationwide acceptance of state medical recommendations and medical exceptions to state drug laws. Reclassification is a crucial first step. Please contract your congressperson and senator about passing federal marijuana legislation, to create some sense in the laws from state to state. * #starbrightsadventure #medicalcannabis #callyourcongressperson #road420 https://www.instagram.com/hillarystarbright/p/CX_9VpZlQBV/?utm_medium=tumblr
