does your team rocket pokemon SI/OC ever meet the protagonist from the games? If so, how does that go? If not, do they meet any of the gym leaders besides Giovanni?

I think yes to both, actually. I'm writing in the first gen Kanto games so it's just Red.

I would like for my Team Rocket OC (Amy) to run into Red beneath the Celadon Game Centre and use her genre-savviness to tackle an eleven year old and wrestle him for his pokéballs while bellowing "NO! DO YOU WANT TO FIGHT A DRAGON?"

This is a massive cultural faux pas, even to Team Rocket, but she doesn't really get that; by this point she's committed to a life of organised crime.

I think once she gets her trainer licence she does meet a few other gym leaders but who knows if I'll get around to writing that. It's a very long way off, haha.

well written fic with terrible characterization and/or plot OR terribly written fic with great plot/character ideas?

This is the evil ask that prompted the thing I sent you, you dastardly woman. It’s also been sitting a few days so let’s get this last ask meme out of the way since I’ve finished everything else.

Ok, here I’m defining “well written” as good grammar and spelling since that’s the technical aspects of writing. In this case, as much as it pains me, I will take a terribly written fic with great plot/character idea as my choice. Now I normally backclick out of anything that has terrible formatting or relentless spelling errors or other similar issues. This is because if the writer can’t bother to care, neither can I, and I’m not expending energy to make it through their unfriendly document.

That being said, I just backclick out of bad writing as a matter of course, no further thought. It’s the terrible characterization or plot in a well written fic that deceives me into spending time on it in vain hope and then either irritates me into leaving or bores me into leaving or sends me into meta rants or makes me forward them onto friends so I can see their pained looks because there’s nothing quite so elemental to friendships as that moment of “oh god, I can’t even-” “I know right!”

That moment is pretty much when you know you’re friends. That and a groaning “what the hell is wrong with you?” followed by the other person laughing. Either or.

Anyway. Great plot and character ideas with bad writing can be fixed by the author getting a beta. Terrible characterization or plot is much more difficult because that usually means the author is blind to the contradictions or doesn’t care which I find irritating the older I get since I’ve grown out of a lot of the fads that are popular among the younger generations and newer writers.

Like, it’s inspiration for spite fics, but it also sits in the back of my brain and gives me twitches because for some reason my memory chooses to save those instead of useful things.

Being warm or being able to consume dairy without repercussions?

Dairy, I guess. All food gives me digestive problems, so eating ANYTHING without hurting myself would be nice. I’ve gotten used enough to the cold that I completely missed the fact that my fingers went numb earlier until I washed my hands and saw that they’d gone yellow even though I was indoors and wearing a jacket.

(Someone had taken the thermostat down to 67/69 degrees and I am... sensitive.)

My parents are once again insisting that I visit a doctor for the cold thing, though.

This might be late for question time, but - in Maddieverse, we know that Kakuzu already knew she was his kid, but what clued him in that she would need/benefit from multiple hearts, instead of being Normal like her mom?

Is it ever really late for question time? The only bad end for question time is if I think "Oh I don't know what to write, I'll have to answer that later,'" and then forget the question exists lol

I think it was her chakra being weird. She's a better sensor than he is, but he does sense her chakra signature over a relatively short distance. Maddie thinks of her own chakra as "weird," and "wormy," but I suspect Kakuzu feels it and goes, "Yeah, that's a Ragdoll Monster." She's a slightly different ragdoll monster (although she's probably getting to feel more and more like him the more hearts she takes), but he is way better at noticing than anyone else would be. He's got that internal perspective. xD

This is my favourite weddell seal quality. Please...... I'm crying.... I want to put my face in the belly..... please.... About 80% of the pups will die at some point after weaning, during adolescence. I guess Antarctica is a hard place to grow up, huh? But until they're weaned, weddell seal mums take very good care of their pups, which is also super cute. They usually start learning to swim at about 2 weeks old, and there's researchers from a long term Montana State University project in Antarctica (they track maternal biometrics and behaviour and pup development to study the population, essentially) who say they've seen weddell seal mums raking the ice into little ramps to help them get back out of the water while they're learning to swim... my heart. ;—;

That project has a YouTube channel, if it's interesting.

I also love how the seals usually look so chill. I know they're not always chill and they fight with each other and so on, but they really have the chillest seal vibes I've seen. u_u

i think... that maglor would have sure helped sell the appearance of a big army coming for sauron...

but actually i think there's so many ways it could have gone, several of them terribly bad. like, consider: if he was addded to the fellowship he could have been a liability. do you know how long maglor spent looking for,,, fucking,,, shiny jewellery??? and there's no way most of them could have overpowered him if he'd wanted the ring. maybe gandalf. anyone else? i do not see it. so I think he could have been a problem as much as a help.

also like... when has a feanorean met a problem he couldn't exacerbate. when. seriously. when.

but like... he would have been nice to have along. the fellowship was sorely lacking in ancient elven poets sobbing the songs of their, like, millions of regrets and slain kin.

(but also like does this mean elrond sent his dAD as a chaperone. what's happening there. was that awkward. christ. it SOUNDS awkward.

does maglor have grandfatherly advice for arwen? does maglor have many x-times grandfatherly advice for aragorn??

someone should write a fic where it's just him giving extremely specific advice and his (x-) grand children being like 'uh-huh, yes, of course,' but it's just... super specific to his catastrophic life. i don't want to write this fic. but someone should. someone else.)

natto or liver?

I remember eating natto seven years ago, but I don’t remember my opinion which presumably means I didn’t hate it. Liver however... if you bury it in sauce and I eat it quickly enough, I can get through it for the health benefits, but I don’t like the quality of the taste and aftertaste.

I’ll have to go with natto just because that’s current ??? rather than “dislike”.

MadaTobi or HashiMito?

If we’re talking about my characterization of MadaTobi or @elenathehun‘s characterization or about like... five-ish other authors saved on my computer somewhere then by all means give me the rough assholes and their complex, occasionally-doomed-to-opposition dynamic.

If we are talking about the... the... the charac... the characte... that which I cannot bear to endure (*insert dramatic fainting*) that is currently the most popular rendition of them on the AO3 tag (*insert thousand yard stare*), then give me my HashiMito founding power couple in all their terrifying potential. Give me the dude who said “fuck the status quo we’re doing it my way” and who laughs gregariously and has no shame and enjoys being a sly goof sometimes because he gets a kick out of setting off his friend’s snap temper and who doesn’t hesitate or truly regret literally stabbing said dearest friend in the back in defense of that dream the moment it became obvious it was necessary. Give me the lady who’s whip-sharp intelligent in the matter of creative innovation with some magical-cryptic-pseudo-mathmatical runic, code language who looks at a literal demon of malevolence and destruction and thinks “I’m gonna use myself at the test subject and enforce my will upon this thing and I SHALL NOT be denied no matter how old its own personality is.” I am sure they are just as interesting to read about.

(I don’t want to genuinely hurt anyone’s feelings over the MadaTobi tab talk above, but characterization is at the heart of my enjoyment of things and my views on what’s good writing, and I really like the founding generation of Naruto. Therefore, I am pretty grouchy about the state of the tag, although I respect in principle that everyone has the right to write what they want and the kudos prove that there are a lot of people who are less purist than I that enjoy it.)
