Inexplicable sights and indescribable feelings at New Ginger Museum in Tochigi, starting with a cyber-shrine dedicated to.... A testament to one man's love of... the colour pink? Pink... ginger? Pink protuberances, in any case. On the day of our visit, the owner was there, all in pink, including a pink wig. There was also an idol performance, as well as a performance by the museum's mascot: a pink deer with ginger antlers. Pink dreams are incomplete without pink food served in a pink cafe. Ginger soda, pickled quail eggs, karaage fried chicken marinated in ginger - the list goes on. All pink, all delicious. Some of the other artefacts herein include a confounding t-shirt, a decidedly deceased robot dog, an entire apartment inside the museum apparently inhabited by anthropomorphic... ginger, yes. And scantily clad anime ginger girls, naturally.
I was told that when this museum opened, it was subjected to so much media attention that it had to incorporate the ginger deer and pink cuteness to make the collection more palatable to the general population. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall of that design meeting.
