Firefly Festival: Things To Know Before You Go
-Check out the line up: See which of your favorite bands and artists are playing and scope out any others that you've never heard of before. Chances are that you will end up discovering someone new that you will love.
-DO NOT move your car once you arrive and park on your campsite. One of the girls in my group decided to move her car and she was not able to get back into the campsite. I ended up having to walk about a mile or two in the hot burning sun and asking strangers to help me just to get my stuff into the car. You do not want that to happen to you. Trust me.
-Bring food that does not need to be refrigerated. It can get really hot in your tent and while they do sell ice for $5 a bag, it will melt quickly and you’ll have to go back and forth from the festival to the campsite just to buy more ice to keep your food from spoiling.
-Bring a tent that will be comfortable enough for everyone and all of your belongings. My group had 5 people in it and an 8 person tent was perfect for us. We had room for our beds and sleeping bags and enough space for us to put our bags.
-Sunscreen will be your best friend while in the woodlands. I recommend bringing the lotion kind and not the kind you spray. You can't take the spray kind into the festival and they will through it out at the gates if you decide to not go leave it in your tent. You definitely need to reapply it during the day so having your sunscreen thrown away is not ideal.
-Bug spray is also very important. Especially this year with the Zika virus going around.
-Deodorant: Also very important for obvious reasons.
-BABY WIPES. I do not know what I would have done without baby wipes. Showers can be hard to come by at firefly. If you don't bring your own portable shower then you have to pay $5-8 just for a cold shower with no water pressure. Baby wipes help keep you clean and feeling fresh.
-Another big necessity: TOILET PAPER and hand sanitizer. Porta potties are not always stocked with these hygienic necessities so bringing your own is a very smart move. You don't want to end up doing your business and then realizing that there is no way for you to wipe yourself unless you open the door and grab some grass. These things happen, people.
-WATER WATER WATER!!!! Bring a water bottle and constantly be refilling it through out the day at the refill stations. Staying Hydrated is extremely important. You don't want to end up missing Mumford & Sons because you ended up passing out. This can be avoided just by DRINKING WATER.
-Buy a portable phone charger before you go. Although there are charging stations throughout the festival and campgrounds, those can get crowded and people get their phones stolen. Investing in a good charger will enable you to keep moving and enjoying yourself.
-Bring enough cash to get you by. I am not sure if all of the food stations accepted credit cards so having a good amount of cash on you for the necessities will save you time and atm fees.
-Bring any medications you need, pads, tampons, shampoo, etc. Ya know, the necessities.
-Be sure to checkout the silent disco and the hammock hideout. These are great places to relax in and to take a break from the craziness that is the festival. Especially check them out at night. They are lit up and very pretty.
-Check out the FYE tent for a chance to meet your favorite artists. All you have to do is buy an album for that artist and you get a wristband guaranteeing you a spot in the meet and greet. I ended up meeting Bastille and Walk The Moon because of this.
-MEET NEW PEOPLE!!!! I didn't really know any of the people in my group so I was riding solo for most of the festival. That was until I was at a charging station and struck up a conversation with another girl who was charging her phone. I ended up becoming friends with her and her group and I didn't have to spend the rest of the festival as a lone wolf.
-Bring a camera of some sort. Firefly is a great experience that you will never want to forget. So bring something to help you record these memories. But don't be silly and record during all of the performances. Live in the moment. Watch these things happen before your eyes, not behind a screen!!!
-Most importantly: HAVE FUN!!!! Use the days at Firefly to get away from your problems and have a good time!!!
See you in the Woodlands!!!
