Entertainment Business Finance

I have to say that I thought this class was very intimidating for me at first. I am not good with my personal finances and I thought it would be very difficult to adjust. But after the first week I noticed that this class was going to be very helpful. Learning all the different methods and ways to work with the business finances opened up my mind to great things. I grew up in a family of multiple business owners including my own father. I used to see him work as a child and think what are all those numbers that he’s counting back and forth. I can actually sit down with him and understand him a little bit better than before when speaking of numbers for business. I have to say that even if it was intimidating at first, now I’m more confident speaking and working with finances. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects but I’m not one to go in depth with formulas.  But with all the different methods learned in class I can work with more confidence and tranquility with my finances. Also knowing all the proper terms was awesome to learn. Leaning the difference between profit, and revenue. What an asset and how depreciation works were some of my favorite things to read and hear about in class.

Business Storytelling and Brand Development

I have to admit that I had never heard of this Marty Neumeier guy but I have to say he’s quite the smart fellow. “1) Who are you? 2) What do you do? 3) Why does it matter?” Those were three questions that I would’ve never asked myself about my brand before starting this class. With professor DeGilio’s class and Marty’s The Brand Gap little by little I started developing my brand and I have to say I’m really happy with how I have started. I have to say that when I started the class I didn’t think that I was going to be able to come up with a whole brand. I did have some goals when I started that I didn’t get to achieve by the end of the class. But I have to say that I know how I can get there now with no hesitation. Conducting the proper research and working with the right assets I know will help me when developing everything the right way. Before I finish I want to share another quote that I found very interesting from Marty Neumeier’s book “The 46 Rules of Genius: An Innovators Guide to Creativity.” That helped me when working on my brand and when writing down my new brand goals. The quote goes like this “Make a sketch, construct a model, or assemble a prototype. Then another. And another. With each attempt, you’ll reveal new possibilities for innovation. Your mind will talk to your hands, and your hands will talk to your mind. This dialogue is called generative thinking, and it happens only when you’re making something. It’s the active ingredient of design.”

PTM Mastery Journal

I have always been a team player. I played basketball and many other sports since a very young age. I can say that being raised in that type of team work environment made me who I am today.  I’ve also been told many times that I was a great leader, but any never had any guidance on how to lead or communicate properly with my team. I have to say that this month I had a great time learning everything that I needed to be a great leader and project manager. I learned that I was a collaborating leader which likes to be empathetic with his teammates. I also learned what type of teammate I am. I believe that those things will help me become a more effective leader in the industry. The music industry is tough and there is no way around it. Understanding how I work and how to communicate properly with others will make the process a lot easier and also more fun. I thought he MBTI and DiSC tests were great dynamics in the class and helped us out greatly finding out what kind of person/ teammate we are. I agreed with both tests results. Bothe stated that I was a caring, empathetic teammate who takes into consideration what everybody if not most of the people feel. I you want to learn what kind of teammate or person you are when it comes to Project Management, just go on to google and write DiSC Assessment or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.  Some of these assessments even show you different celebrities and people from all across history that are and/or think the same way you do. In a way is almost motivational, something like if they did it so can I. You might even feel like the understand you. I enjoyed the class and can’t wait to see what is in my path on my road to mastery.

Digital Marketing

Social media management is something that I've wanted to get into for the past couple of years but never got around to do it. Recently working with the company Firstline Creative I had the opportunity to work in a social media campaign for Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association, also known as ThyCa. Even though i helped them with the campaign a bit, I didn't get to learn much. Watching these videos for the top 10 tools for social media management opened up my eyes and brain to a whole other level. If I would have known about Buffer I think it would have been awesome to use with the THyCa campaign. How simple it is to use is really great for me. I get distracted very easy and have a hard time finding stuff out on my own and Buffer seems to be easy enough for me to get around it real fast. The difference in plans is really not that bad. The individual plan being free of cost and the amount of restrictions, which are very reasonable, I believe is a perfect plan for somebody starting a company and getting the hang of the social media marketing. Now when you get the hang of it, make that jump to the Awesome plan ASAP so you can get more posts planned for your social media. I also believe that Tweetdeck is a great tool to get your page in order and to keep in contact with all your followers at the same time. It is very easy to use and it is free of cost. Watching this truly helped me learn a lot about the possibilities of what could be done with social media marketing.

Maxwell or Greene

I can’t really say which I am at this very second. I find myself in a place with a fifty-fifty balance between both Maxwell and Greene. Finding my way to be a leader in this world might be difficult. I sometimes find myself intimidated surrounding myself with leaders but that stops now. I’ve had the experience to lead my high school senior year class and also to lead a team in little league basketball. Looking back now, each one of those experiences and many more showed me that I can be a great leader. Also, thinking about my past experiences taught me that I might be more of a Maxwell leader in the future than a Greene. I find that my ability for others to follow me is quite good. I like to show people what I represent and what I stand for. I also show them that you can reach goals when doing that. I show them how to commit and that it’s ok to ask me for help when they don’t know what to do. I can’t live without respect for others. Also, little by little I work more with my Integrity working on my work ethic, responsibilities and also my confidence. Dwight Eisenhower believes that “the supreme quality for a leader is unquestionably integrity” You have to be true to yourself and be confident and stand for what you believe. If you show weakness to those who follow you when speaking about what you believe, you might lose followers very easily. I believe the Maxwell style of leadership is more of my style based on my personality. I think I might want to achieve a ninety-five percent Maxwell and five present Greene. Once I reach that, I’ll be ready for whatever comes my way.
