Greetings everyone! It's getting closer to the end of the year, and yet again, another year of resolutions will be filling the journals, Facebooks, Tumblrs and countless other forms of social media making declarations of how changes will be made. Well, what I wanted to talk about, maybe even rant a little, is commitment and discipline. And to give an example of this, is this video, which is one of my favorites.
It's about an exceptional athlete named Lindy Wall, who's a competitive Crossfit athlete. As you will see in the video, and I will shortly summarize here, during her Crossfit training, she experienced an injury that was related to 3 spinal conditions that pre-existed before her training. Her Dr. had basically condemned her to running, or doing something that was not Crossfit related at all. Now, to many, when their Dr. tells them that they cannot do something, some are quick to listen, and I don't blame them. They don't dare shy away from their advice because, well, they're Dr.'s and they know what they're talking about. But for Lindy, and many athletes all over the world that has overcome this, that was not acceptable. She ended up making top 3 in the regional's competition and ultimately went to the Crossfit Games in 2013.
I would hope to think that this story of complete perseverance, discipline and COMMITMENT, would resonate to anyone that's thinking about making a fitness change in their lives for the better. I would hope to think that this commitment doesn't come around once a year, but it is a continual journey, all the way from Day 1. Because to me, that's what fitness is: a way of life, and a journey to find our strongest selves within. And this strength goes beyond the physical. Happy holidays, and to healthy living.
