IT'S A HARD KNOCK LIFE!!!!
Warning. This post will be very dramatic.... Sorry.... NOT SORRY! Hahahah
My final days with the women at the University of Idaho was so fun! They took me around, I ate at their dining hall (YUM!!!), took me to their mall, loved me, danced with me, laughed with me, and all that jazz. I was sad but not sad at the same time leaving the women of Pi Kappa because for some reason, I truly believe that I will see them again... But for now, they will forever be in my heart.
While I was walking around Greek row with some girls, we went to see the Delta Zeta house being built... Couple of the Sigma Nu (our future neighbors) tweeted some nasty things about the noise coming from the construction of the Delta Zeta house.. Bless their hearts, it was pretty loud. Hahahaha. But of course, I stopped by the house and I waved down the construction men and had a conversation (more like yelling) across the street. I thanked them for building our house and asked them to make it pretty! Hehehe. Pretty sure the Sigma Nus who were outside were like, "who is this crazy Asian girl yelling at the construction workers?!" Hahaha
Anyways, I went running on one of my last days at Idaho and went on an adventure around campus.... Well, little did I know that it was fraternity recruitment... #awkward. I was running around Greek Row and ran into all these freshman boys going through rush and the sidewalks are tiny... Did they move? NO. There was like groups of 10 walking around and none of them moved! HOW GENTLEMAN OF YOU ALL!!! And they all stared at me... It was soooo awkward.... I think they were staring at me because I was wearing the Delta Zeta tank but it said, "Georgia State University" so they were probably wondering why a Georgia girl is at Idaho. Lol
After the most awkward run of my life, I went to starbucks for breakfast.. And as I was eating breakfast by myself, I felt awkward when all these fraternity men walked in and stared at me... Again.. Probably confused by my shirt. I really wish I didn't wear that shirt.. Ugh. Anyways, to my pleasant surprise, the Fraternity and Sorority Adviser, Brittany, was in starbucks so I got to talk to her and her assistant, Heather, for a while... They were so welcoming and nice! We had some great conversations about how Greek life is so different in different campuses and how Brittany (FSA) wants to bring a positive change to campus. I really enjoyed their company.
Shortly after that, to my surprise AGAIN, a Theta Xi consultant, CJ, saw my shirt (screw this shirt by this point) and came up to me. He was from Georgia Southern University and I'm from Georgia State University. We all clearly know Georgia State is way better than Georgia Southern so we definitely bickered about that. Lol. And WHAT A SMALL FREAKING WORLD. He went to Camden High School... The school Grayson played my senior year in the Dome... I cheered and he played football! SMALL WORLD! That year, we beat Camden in the Dome and we were ranked #1 in Georgia... Unfortunately, we didn't win state but CAMDEN DID!!!! Ugh, Camden sucks. Hahahaha. But it was so cool meeting someone from Georgia in Idaho.. So random. Hahaha.
ANYWAYS. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT DALLAS.
Lord, bless it. I had a red eye from Seattle to Dallas and boy was I exhausted! I recommend you not ever taking the red eye because traveling is exhausting enough and red eyes just make it worse. Oh and in the last post, I talked about how I'm so lucky to meet great people during traveling, etc.. Well... I screwed myself over for saying that... The minute I walked into the Pullman, Washington airport... There were a group of Chinese men in the airport. This airport is TINY.. I MEAN SMALL. It's smaller than my elementary school's gym.... Yeah. So anyways, after I checked my bag and all that (I did meet a great person during this process.. He said he's the house dad for SAE at University of Idaho and saw my Georgia ID and he graduated from Georgia! Goo Dawgs! (I literally said that to him. Hehe!) And he was so nice!) But after I checked my bag, I found me a nice comfortable seat. THEN... One of the chinese men came up to me and spoke chinese to me... OK... Wow. Awkward. I just stared at him and he just walked away... But he KEPT staring at me.. I got such a creepy feeling from him!!!! And all his friends were staring at me too... And they were not my age! They were like 50s or something! SO WEIRD! And just my luck! He ended up sitting next to me on the flight. Ugghhhhhh!!! And he spoke to me in Chinese.. Again... And I told him I can't speak Chinese but he couldn't speak English!!! THE LANGUAGE BARRIER HERE WAS KILLING ME. He literally talked to me in Chinese for like two minutes straight and I just stared at him. But he would lean over and stare at me the entire flight.. It was the strangest thing!!! I was too scared to fall asleep and PRAISE THE LORD it was only a 45 minute flight.
So I land Dallas around 5:30am and sweet Lisa picked me up from the airport. I was looking forward to seeing my new home in Dallas, taking a shower, and taking a looonnngg nap before we start getting to work. However, that was not gonna happen. Lisa got there the night before me and she didn't sleep one minute because of the living conditions that we were suppose to live in... When I walked in, oh boy... Lisa and I are NOT high maintenance and just give us a clean room and bed/couch whatever to sleep on and we will be A-OK! But Lisa had sanitized the whole place and scrubbed everything and it was still bad. She said there were hair (not hers) in the sheets, brown and yellow stains in the other bed, the pull out couch was broken, crumbs on the counters, smelled like smoke and mold, hair in the tub and sink, make up on the towels, DIRTY towels, I mean it was just BAD. Also, not to mention that all these foreign men were staying there and they would talk to us as we would walk down the hall and it was just awkward and they gave me the NO feeling... We called our boss and explained the situation. She told us we could get a hotel while we figure something else out. when Lisa and I went to the front desk.. LAWD BLESS IT. We waited TWO... TWWWWOOO hours for the Manager to come down... Who never came down by the way. The professionalism aspect of this specific company is out the window. They have absolutely no respect towards their customers or their time. So we took matters into our own hands and we called their corporate office. #bless
So currently, we are homeless in Dallas... But I've never been so grateful for a bed... We are too spoiled and there are kids down the street, Haiti, Africa, Georgia who don't even have beds to sleep on.... We often forget how truly blessed we really are for all our luxuries.
Anyways, Lisa and I have been going on adventures and I downloaded the Urban Spoons app so we shall see how many restaurants we can venture out to!
What I learned about myself: - I don't believe in good-byes. It's always a "see you later" -No matter how exhausted I am, I can convince myself I'm not tired... By mentally singing, "I'm alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic" - I don't know what to do in bad times except laugh - I truly believe that the worst the experience, the better the story
Hopefully by Monday, we will have a home!
Thanks for reading!
Peace n blessinz
Go and BE GREAT!
With lots of love, Cindy
I'm alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic!
FEA was….. Good. I either gained a lot from the sessions or it was something I already knew and was very redundant….
When I landed Indianapolis, my good friend, HAHAHAHAHAHAA Caroline, was waiting for me. Haha she’s so funny. She’s not the most dramatic, hilarious person I bet, but she’s pretty funny and dramatic. Hahahahahaha. I love getting under her skin just to see her reactions. It really makes my day. She says I'm "witty" and I don't think anyone has ever called me that before... Haha. Anyways, we rode the taxi together to our hotel, Sheraton, and ate lunch at a food court at the mall connected to the hotel. Dang, that mall was legit. It was like a combo of Lenox and Phipps. It wasn't as big but the stores were great.
I was so excited to room with another first year, Amanda! Funny story... I was roommates with a fellow president, Neha, at President's Academy at February 2013. Small world because Neha and Amanda were roommates and best friends at Drexel!!! Hahah! So cool! Amanda is such a cutie pie!! She keeps saying that she's boring and dull... But I think she's awesome and she sparkles bright than any diamond. Hehehe. Amanda says and does little things that make her stand out. Her comments and actions literally have me cracking up so much! Hahaha! She has such a supporting boyfriend who is in the Air Force and they're super cute. Usually, I hate couples but they're alright. He's nice and I met him through the phone. Hahaha. I call her Mandy or Mandy-girl and she told me that only her family members call her that... That made me feel really special because I feel like we have a special bond and happy that she lets me call her Mandy. Hehehe
I was sick majority of the time so I didn’t get to eat as much so that was the worst part. But we eat like queens… Literally. So much deliciousness!!!! I've been taking pictures of every meal we've eaten and I'm gonna start a food diary. Lol. But I've been getting migraines from hell and I've never really gotten headaches or anything like that... Woof.
Anyways, on the first day of FEA Field Staff Training…… They made us make friends… THEY MADE US MAKE FRIENDS. Ugh… They said turn around and find three people you’ve never met and blah blah blah. That was torture. I hated every minute of it. And of course, we were sitting between fraternity men so great again. I had to talk to boys. Ahhhhhhhh
However, I was able to meet the founder of Circle of Sisterhood, Ginny Carroll, and I was inspired again to save the world. Circle of Sisterhood is a great organization that help women and girls go to school. Everyone should check it out! It doesn't matter if you're a male or female. It's for a great cause! Check out the video about it!

This is my personal favorite... PLEASE watch this one! I promise you won't regret it!

But we as educational leadership consultants got closer and I had so much fun with them. I love how we get along so well and everyone is also so ALIVE, ALERT, AWAKE, ENTHUSIASTIC! Hehehe. Well, most of the time they were… Also, they accept my weirdness so I shall be forever grateful!
FEA Field Staff training ended on Wednesday at noon and we had Risk Management on the Road with all the sorority consultants by 12:30.... Boy, was I exhausted! But Road to Risk Management was so interesting! I was able to learn a lot about case studies relating risk management and how..... not stupid.... but.... stupid college students can be... Let's be responsible people and think before you act. It's sad how much things can change in a blink of an eye. Being drunk with your friends for a few hours or making reckless decisions for the thrill of it or to look "cool" isn't worth a lifetime spent in rehab or relying on others to do something simple as eating.
During the Risk Management on the Road, we had a great presenter who discussed about mental health. His name was Ross Szabo. Boy... Did he get all of our attention.... Hehehehe. He was one attractive man. Besides his ridiculous good looks, he shared his hard times dealings with his bipolar and personality disorder. He really opened to having a healthy mental health and whatnot.
On Thursday, we headed for Dallas, Texas! It was about a two hour flight and I unfortunately got the middle seat.......... However, sweet Amanda was so nice enough to let me switch seats with her!! How nice of her!!! SERIOUSLY TOUCHED BY HER KINDNESS!!!! I got to sit by a man named Matthew. He has two step-daughters and graduated from Purdue. Now, he's an executive director for some engineering company or something. Basically, he was living a very comfortable life. Anyways, he gave me a lot of insight and advice about my future endeavors. We talked the entire time of the flight and didn't even time flying by... Haha. Flying by... On a plane.. Hahahahaha. Anyways, he said he wasn't suppose to be on that flight and originally, I wasn't suppose to sit there... It's so cool how things happens and everything happens for a reason. Well, anyways. I'm thankful for Matthew and for his wisdom.
Once in Dallas, we took the cab to the Grand Hyatt connected to the airport.... Well... Long story short, our cab misunderstood and started taking us to downtown Dallas.... We had to pay $70 for him to turn around and get him back to the airport and proceeded to yell at us and get angry. K. Thanks man. Welcome to Dallas!!!!!
We got straight to training and every day of training, my mind keep getting mind blown... WOOF. The amount of information that I've consumed is a bit overwhelming but exciting!!
I wish I knew all of this when I was a chapter officer for Delta Delta... How much more of an impact I could have made... But now I shall take my knowledge to many other chapters across the US! Whoo hooo!
Again, I had a terrible migraine and missed about four hours of training because I was dying in my room... Oh woof.
After some Membership Development Training (recruitment training) we headed to Oxford, Ohio for ELC training at headquarters!
**I've been working on this post for a few days.. I mean like a week now... So... I'm just gonna post it now.**
