Feb. 3 is for Setsubun (節分, the bean throwing festival, which celebrates the first day of spring. Usually we would be throwing roasted soybeans at ogres and then are obliged to eat the same number of beans as our age (some places say it is the same number as our age plus one extra bean). I love the roasted soybeans they sell around this time for setsubun. The leftover ones can get a bit hard so you may want to eat them in this way. Make kinako (soybean flour)! What I do is take the leftover roasted soybeans heat them in a skillet just to warm up the beans. Throw them in a food processor to make a powder form and if you like, sift the powder to make it finer. You can use it as topping for mocha (rice cakes) or ice cream, add it to milk or whatever you can think of. You can skip the warming in a skillet part but if you want more aroma I recommend it. #kinako #mochi #setsubun #roastedsoybeans #soybeanflour https://www.instagram.com/p/CZbzbVgl4YM/?utm_medium=tumblr
