As our 1200 person community from 94 countries continued to celebrate, question, stretch and challenge in the struggle for gender justice on day three of the Delhi global symposium, "Men and Boys for Gender Justice," exhilaration and fatigue alternated for my body's attention. The extra copies of Voice Male sitting among the richly diverse materials laid out on the table North American MenEngage and our brother booth mates, Cariman: MenEngage Carribean share, have been snatched up up and will soon be on their way in bulk to Uganda, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan, among other countries. That there is the prospects of scores of articles to come over the coming year(s) is without question. How fortunate for Voice Male -- and for all of us.
Day 2 at the Symposium
Another heart opening day at the global symposium, Men and Boys for Gender Justice. It keeps unfolding with such grace and humanity. If 1100 people from 94 countries can create such a sense of community with deep listening, trust, and commitment, there's no secret recipe to peace in the home and harmony in the world: together we all put our shoulders to the wheel of change, plant our feet firmly on the ground and push. love. forward.
It's the second day of the Global Symposium, "Men and Boys for Gender Justice" at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi. Our dazzling community of 1100 people from 94 countries--a billowing rainbow spilling into a courtyard overbrimming with booths filled with posters and pamphlets, the clank of coffee and tea cups a percussive backbeat to the din of conversation We have connected from so many paths: passion for equality, women's safety, men's growth and transformation, journeying with boys toward manhood...whatever the road, we all seem to be guided by love. Last evening's inaugural ceremony set a tone of healing and spirit, appropriate to South Asia's spiritual heritage: "Bhakti and Baul music questioned the dichotomy of the feminine and masculine, drawing together strands from Hinduism and Islam" in a seamless quest for Oneness. Shabnam Virmani and Parvathy Baul invoked the poetry of Kabir and Lalon. the mystical poets. I recommend this music as the ultimate antidote to jet lag.
