And so we begin with a general introduction.
Starting a blog has been at the back of my mind for less than a year, since I began writing brief notes on films I NEEDED to see during a self motivated catch up on some of the 'greatest' movies of all time (at least according to Empire Magazine and IMDB). This involved renting films ranging from The Apartment to Mean Streets to Schindler's List and critics favourite The Human Centipede on a free 30 day trial with Empire Movie Club. However with such a scheme where the DVDs you watch have to go through the post I was able only to watch about 12 films. Rubbish! So here we are, a year later and once again I intend to watch lots of films ('cos it's fun) and write what I think about them for all to see. I will also discuss hard hitting subjects such as my favourite actor and director people (David Lynch, Danny Boyle, Kirsten Dunst will probably crop up once or twice) and their latest projects.
Talking of which takes me to the subject of my blog title, Outside of a Dream. Yes it sounds a little pretentious but my girlfriend liked it so there. In case you didn't know it comes from a line in Mulholland Drive and I like that film and I like that line so that's why I chose it. Also I thought it might make you think a bit about such philosophical debates as "Do we live in a dream?" but probably didn't because it's a title of a film blog. Oh and one of last years best films, Inception (which I saw twice at IMAX) is about dreams.
I will talk about films in a more intellectual way at some point, but for now I shall just reference random ones in order to show my obvious breadth of knowledge and as a way of introducing myself (Hi I'm Rob). I did have an alternative title for the blog: Still Wearing Pink Socks. This is another reference to a film, this time Andrzej Zulawski's Possession and I thought it might demonstrate an understanding of films that could be described as 'older', 'cult' or even 'banned' thus increasing my credibility. However I chose not to as it is a bit long.
Okay that will do for now, I'm tired and want to go and watch Six Feet Under which I like very much. I shall return soon with something more substantial for you all to read and enjoy.
