#okay ducky but bear with me. What if Persephone was mortal #a mortal woman who was so loved by demeter that she called her a daughter #and everywhere she went there would be a good harvest and plenty to eat #and hades fell in love when he saw her working in the fields laughing so freely. So fair and beautiful and happy #and so he comes to her in her dreams. And she falls in love with him in those dreams and sees he is not as cold and heartless as the tales make him out to be #but. for some reason. For war or famine or draught #she dies of sarvation. and when she enters the underworld he sees her. #and she asks to see him and so he grants her an audience #and she asks him why he will not face her. why he will not judge her. he cannot speak #but eventually he tells her she must return to the living world. She desrved sunlight on her skin and wildflowers in her hair. #and she asks him one thing before he has her leave - can I eat? It has been so long #he tells her that she could never leave if she eats of the fruit from his garden. but she knows. SHe knows full well. and so he takes her #to his garden and gets her the sweetest pomegranate he has #she eats the whole thing. Does not matter what the stories say. she eats it all and defies the gods by leaving nonetheless #but he finds it is hard to be without her. He sends messengers with gifts #sends a hound to protect her when she travels. and when she finds a place alone he visits her himself #he does this exactly six times during the warmer days of the year #and they have lied to the gods and said she ate only six seeds and for the colder half of the year she is taken down into the underworld #and she tells him everything about the living world and all the news that she has to share. And he tells her what happened in the underworld and olympis and they spend hours and days doing nothing but talk and be with each other and be able to touch each other and love each other #and one day. some years later. she asks him I think. quietly and cautiously #May I be so bold my lord and love. May I be so bold as to ask. will you let me stay with you through the winter not as your prisoner but ... #but as your companion and advisor and helper and wife #and they marry in the sun. He would not have it any other way #and he only smiles when she is near. and only laughs when she makes him laugh #and she is a piece of sun and life and spring in the kingdom of death
