AU in which Gabriel isn’t Hawkmoth: Rogercop.
“Hello? Adrien?”
Adrien sighed with relief when he heard Nathalie’s voice.
“Hey, Nathalie, today is parent’s career day at school, I was just wondering if Father was coming.”
There was a pause before he heard. “Let me check.”
There was a scuffling sound. His father’s voice was muffled, but Adrien clearly heard.
“I thought that was Thursday.”
Nathalie’s voice came in reply. “It is Thursday.”
There was more sounds before.
“Hello?” Gabriel agreste said. Adrien tried to keep his voice light. “Hello father. It’s parent’s career day, remember? I was wondering if you were coming.”
“Ah yes, parent’s career day. Unfortunately, I can’t leave the office,”
Adrien held in a sigh.
“But if you give your teacher Nathalie’s number, I can give a short presentation over video chat, is that acceptable.”
Adrien took a deep breath. It was better then nothing.

Gabriel agreste waited for the whole school day, when that had passed, he waited for Adrien to come home and explain why he hadn’t called. When Nathalie came home without Adrien and explained that an Akuma had been released and that Adrien hadn’t been at school, Gabriel was livid. He sent out both Nathalie and Gorilla to look for him. (author’s note: in origins, one of the conditions of Adrien going to school is that he have his bodyguard with him, so how come don’t we see him at school?) It wasn’t till later that evening that Adrien finally appeared through the door. Gabriel stood in the main entrance, his jaw tense.
“Where were you?” He ground out.
Adrien ducked his head. “I-I was, um, I was...”
“There was an Akuma out. Nathalie called the school, you disappeared in the commotion. I have been worried sick. Where were you?”
“I got, arrested for um...”
“Lying to your father? Until you can tell me where you were and what exactly you were doing, you’ve lost my trust. Go to your room.”
Nathalie watched Adrien go with a frustrated expression.
“Don’t you think you were a bit hard on him sir?”
“No, he’s hiding something. That Akuma didn’t have the ability to turn others into his minions. Adrien should have been perfectly sensible of where he was an what he was doing. According to the surveillance we have at the school, he wasn’t the only one who disappeared. A young girl did as well.”
“Adrien wouldn’t-“
“I don’t know what my son would or wouldn’t do Nathalie. It is becoming very clear I don’t know him as well as I thought I did.”
