All these riverside plants he knows like the growths of his own body. Acrid stinking-hellebore, its green petals dyed crimson at the rims. Fleshy toothwort, the colour of a muddy white pig. Broomrape, wrinkled and brown. Henbane, whose veins run blood. In winter stinking-hellebore appearing before any other plants were in bloom and the only colour in the visible world was the orange and red of willow and dogwood at the water’s edge.

The Lap Pool by Robert Drewe is an excellent character study.
“The Lap Pool” is a short story by Australian author Robert Drewe, and the opening story in the 2008 collection The Rip. Robert Drewe is known for writing about the beach, and its importance to the lives of many Australians, but this particular story is about man’s relationship to a very different body of water — a pool on a farm. Getting back to vlogging... finally!
Two books for you today. Both Australian, each VERY different. Our Sunshine by Robert Drewe and Carrie’s Song by Bronwyn Blake.
Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions for books you’d like me to review.
So today in literature we had to write a piece in the style of Robert Drewe (author of Our Sunshine, which is a fictional take on Ned Kelly) and I signed it off, "Goodnight my alluring bird, goodnight." Then I realised I was supposed to sound like Ned Kelly not Cecil Palmer. I didn't care.
