Her Cold Justice by Robert Dugoni

~ Circumstances, challenges, and choices impact our lives in ways we may not realize till the consequences appear later ~

What I liked: * Keera Duggan: lawyer, defense attorney in practice established by her father, sisters work in the office with her, bright, strategic thinker, dedicated, competitive, child chess prodigy, adapts quickly to surprises, formidable opponent, intriguing, potential to be a workaholic

* The Duggan family: Patsy – father, lawyer, alcoholic in recovery; mother: strong and supportive; Ella – competently manages the office; Maggie: a bit of a wildcard and plays a big part in this story

* J.P. Harrison: ex-police officer now investigates for the Duggan law practice, uncle of client in this story

* The police investigation and the investigation paralleling it done by Keera and her team and a look into how they were similar but different

* The look into the legal aspects of the case

* Michael Westbrook: J.P.’s nephew, indicted for double homicide, pursuing higher education, felt for him and hoped Keera’s defense would prove effective on his behalf

* Billy Ford and Frank Rossi: Violent Crimes Detectives, caught the murder case that Michael was indicted for, interesting to follow them and hear their thoughts on the case – respected them

* The plot, pacing, twists and turns, surprises, and final outcome

* Thinking about the choices some of the characters made and wondering how they could justify them then live with what they had done

* The connection with a bit of chemistry Frank Rossi and Keera – and wondering if they will be able to navigate the potential conflicts a detective and a defense attorney might face if dating

* Keera’s mother’s advice: “When you dance with the devil, the devil changes you.”

What I didn’t like: * Thinking about the choices made by some that saw them “dancing with the devil” and the impact it had on them

* Thinking about innocent people convicted of crimes they did not commit and wondering if they ever receive true justice

Did I like this book? Yes

Would I read more by this author? Yes

A Dead Draw by Robert Dugoni

~ Excellent addition to this exciting series ~ Couldn’t put it down ~ Loved learning about single action shooting competitions and that armed forces marksmen have competitive teams ~

What I liked:

* Tracy: * Tracy: cold case detective, wife, mother, good friend, dedicated, professional, persistent, focused, detail oriented, marksman, competitive shooter when young, protective, * Dan: lawyer, husband, father, loving, kind, generous, supportive, professional, protective, there for his family and friends

* The family of daughter Daniella, nanny Therese, Rhodesian Ridgebacks Rex & Sherlock ~ all played a part in this story

* The police that rallied around Tracy in Seattle and in their getaway home where she and Dan grew up

* Lydia Johnson: young woman, competitive single action shooter, excellent computer gamer, loving daughter and granddaughter, on the spectrum, plays a bit part in this story

* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing with twists & turns aplenty

* Learning the impact than following the rules as a law enforcement officer can have

* The fleshing out of the characters, good and bad, and how it added to the story

* The surprise at sunrise and how it provided the perfect way to deal with the killer in this story

* That there were no loose ends and the ending left me on a positive note

* The authors comments in the acknowledgements that reminded me of my father that loved a good Western and who was also a was a marksman grade shooter in WWII

What I didn’t like: * Edmund House & Erik Schmidt: killers, psychopaths, evil men who had no remorse

* Thinking about what can turn a “normal” person into a ruthless killer

Would I read more in this series? Yes
