Megan Aline at Robert Lange Studios.

Exhilarating new works from artist Megan Aline, currently on view at Robert Lange Studios until January 28th, 2023 in the exhibition, "Wander Within" alongside sculptural works from artist Kevin Chambers.

The titled of the show, “Wander Within,” Aline describes as, “A play on the idea of wandering through the forest while also reflecting inward. As a child I grew up exploring the Maine coast. I draw inspiration for my work from the moments as a child where I was by myself and able to let my imagination thrive.”

For this show, Aline has not only used her childhood imagination but also drawn inspiration from the women she references as models. “I look for women who naturally hold themselves with reverence. Even though you don’t see their faces, just their jawline and posturing tell you who they are.”

Brett Scheifflee's "Your Land, My Land."

Currently on view at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, South Carolina is artist Brett Scheifflee's solo exhibition, "Your Land, My Land."

Brett Scheifflee is an artist who specializes in naturalistic American landscape paintings, concentrating on the Northeast, West, and Coastal South regions. He aims to evoke feelings of peace, gratitude, and inspiration in viewers by capturing the beauty of the land, including familiar farmland and tractors preparing fields for planting. Through his artwork, Scheifflee hopes to encourage people to slow down, take a breath, and cherish fond memories while appreciating the stunning beauty of their homeland.

Joshua Flint's "Dream Sequence."

Currently on view at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, South Carolina is artist Joshua Flint's solo exhibition, "Dream Sequence."

This new series of paintings capture overlapping ideas and fleeting memories painted in a story telling fashion.

Flint says of choosing the show title “Dream Sequence:" “The phrase carries a strong correlation to the visual language of my painting. It is also a literary technique used in film and storytelling, which has a big influence on my work; as much of my work is derived more from literature than anywhere else.”

"Playing Favorites" at Robert Lange Studios.

Currently on view at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, South Carolina is the group exhibition, "Playing Favorites."

The gallery typically hosts two or three themed group shows each year, pushing artists to explore a specific subject matter. For this exhibit they are giving selected artists a chance to recreate something they love to paint but now in a new way.

Gallery owner Robert Lange said, “When brainstorming thematic group shows we love focusing in on the lives and practices of artists. There is a behind the scenes quality to many of our exhibits which allows the show’s audience to experience a window into the lives of our painters. This new show is really asking artist to look back over the span of their painting career and remember what paintings they really loved to create and why.”

"Reverence" at Robert Lange Studios.

Currently on view at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, South Carolina is the two person exhibition, "Reverence," featuring the work of artists Robert Lange and Patrick Kramer.

Kramer has become recognized for his dynamic paintings of masterworks being sometimes destroyed and sometimes reflected upon. Alongside his creations are Lange’s inventive realist paintings, often of trompe l’oeil items or magical realism.

Both artists build up their unique compositions using oil paint in multiple layers and various thicknesses to compose unique interpretations in paint.

Nathan Durfee’s “Dancing with Giants.”

Currently on view at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, South Carolina is artist Nathan Durfee’s solo exhibition, “Dancing with Giants.”

For, “Dancing with Giants,” Durfee has found old master works for inspiration and applied his own unique style to them. Durfee said, “I learned a lot about color choices and paint application, but the biggest takeaway was reaffirming the belief that there’s no ‘perfect’ way to approach art.” 

The artist continues, “There were two main drivers of this show. I wanted to look back and study these old masterworks for inspiration in both subject matter as well as painting techniques. Curiosity also acted as a driver: I have a unique style and wanted to see what it looked like layered on top of these iconic works. I’m glad I found out!”

"The Birds and the Bees" at Robert Lange Studios.

Currently on view at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, South Carolina is the group exhibition, "The Birds and the Bees."

Robert Lange says of the exhibit, “The phrase birds and bees gives an artist a lot or room to imagine and that is where the magic can be created.” As paintings and sculptures of birds and bees flow through the gallery, viewers can imagine how they would interpret the subject.
