PBA justifies rehiring of controversial exec Rhose Montreal, cites league performance in her term
Despite resistance from two of its members, the PBA Board of Governors has rehired controversial executive Rhose Montreal, citing her performance on the job as the primary reason for the appointment. “The PBA has reached greater heights during the term of Rhose Montreal. Revenue was at a high,” PBA chairman Robert Non said in justification for the decision to rehire the former marketing executive and business director of the PBA Properties. Two board representatives – Dickie Bachmann of Alaska and Atty. Raymond Zorilla of Phoenix – did not support the rehiring of Montreal but they were outvoted by the other members. Alaska team owner Wilfred Uytengsu, in an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Musong Castillo, was even quoted as saying that Montreal’s rehiring speaks poorly of the leadership in the PBA is today and suggested that there should be repercussions for certain actions. PBA commissioner and newly-appointed CEO Chito Narvasa welcomed the input from Uytengsu. “We welcome comments and suggestions from team owners,” Narvasa said. Montreal resigned as a PBA executive at the height of a falsification of documents issue. “Humingi siya ng tawad and the board accepted her resignation,” said Non. But the Board of Governors considered the rehiring of Montreal, whom they believed to have played a big part in the league’s growth the past few years. http://j.mp/1YMTABB
