Geordi's mom and the ship she captains goes missing but Geordi doesn't want to give up on her. Everyone like "Geordi be real" but dude has literally seen his captain unassimilated, his best friend get his head blown off and buried for 300 years and then successfully reattached, and even zapped into his own dang funeral so why wouldn't he want to keep the search up for more than a couple days?

GRADE: C

Victory to Pulp Fiction, so Trek WINS 411-407!

BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE

A couple wealthy California kids who dream of being rock stars have to pass a big oral exam or one a them is getting sent to military school but luckily a future dude gives them a time traveling phone booth. Well hijinx ensue and I guess they don't screw up history by stealing all these historical figures?

GRADE: C+

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "Schisms"

Riker falls asleep during Data's poetry reading so who's to blame? Aliens, that's who. I mean even more alien aliens than usual.

TREKMATCH! # 719 - TNG's "Who Watches the Watchers" vs 1971's A Bay of Blood

A BAY OF BLOOD aka ECOLOGIA DEL DELITTO aka CARNAGE aka REAZIONE A CATENA aka TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE aka BLOOD BATH

Gotta love grindhouse drive in marketers trying to trick audiences into seeing the same movie more than once! In this movie a family squabbles amongst themselves about an inheritance, but instead of just stomping to their room and slamming the door they all get stabby. Plus one real wild ending that is totally out of nowhere. It's nice looking and if indeed it is the first giallo movie (extremely debatable) then that's cool, but the plot is asinine.

GRADE: C

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "Who Watches the Watchers?"

A group of scientists is secretly watching a primitive village society when their holo-emitter breaks and they are discovered. Prime Directive strike one! Then they accidentally electrocute a villager so Dr Crusher beams him up to resuscitate him. Prime Directive strike two! Then he sees Picard and figures he must be God and needs a sacrifice. Strike three, yerrrrrrr out!

GRADE: C+

TREKMATCH! # 427 - DS9's "Profit and Loss" vs 1964's A Fistful of Dollars

A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS aka PER UN PUGNO DI DOLLARI

In this, how to say, "loose adaptation" of Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo, a lone drifter pits two crime families against each other in order to get a buncha old time money. I think and history thinks that this movie is great and that Yojimbo is also great, but of course if you are going to remake somebody else's movie you ought to get permission first and maybe even pay some money which is also what the judge thought, but who cares? Both movies are still around even if you shouldn't watch this on Starz  because they cropped it from its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio to 16:9.

GRADE: B+

STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE - "Profit and Loss"

In this, how to say, "loose adaptation" of Casablanca, a Cardassian professor and her two TAs show up on the station, but maybe she actually is a revolutionary,  and maybe also she used to date Quark. So Quark actually has some emotions other than greed for a change! No lawsuit for this one because I guess there's a difference between paying homage to a fifty year old classic and ripping off a movie that came out the previous year in a time when not everybody could just stream a Japanese samurai movie with relative ease.

GRADE: C+

Victory to Dollars, so Trek is up 216-211!

TREKMATCH! # 309 - TNG's "Parallels" vs 1990's Begotten

BEGOTTEN

God kills himself, Mother Earth jerks off the corpse to impregnate herself, and then there's a buncha rape for an hour. The movie got famous because Susan Sontag claimed it was one of the most genius filmic creations in history, but how come so-called genius dudes always have to have a buncha brutal rape scenes in their movies? The filmmaker claimed he was a devotee of Artaud, but as a fellow Artaud head I'll say this is kinda overrated and also not a horror movie.

GRADE: D+

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "Parallels"

Worf comes back from a knife tournament or something and gets thrown a surprise party. But waitasec, his cake was chocolate and then vanilla, and Deanna was his friend and then his wife, and then Geordi was alive and then dead - something nutty's going on! It turns out he's jumping through universes just like happens to any of us every now and then, you know the deal!

GRADE: A-

Long Beach doctor faces 50+ count indictments stemming from illegal opioid distribution

Long Beach Doctor Robert Wiemer was recently indicted by a federal grand jury for his alleged involvement in selling opioids under the table.

In total, Wiemer is facing nearly 60 counts including 51 counts of distributing controlled substances outside of work and six counts of money laundering.

According to the indictment, Dr. Wiemer was writing prescriptions for pain killers and other drugs…

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Remember how exciting the end of The Dark Knight was, with Batman set at odds with the cops and Lucius Fox and having to fight his endless war on crime on his own? Well, just kidding, turns out he retired from crime fighting immediately and Howard Hughesed himself for a decade. Well, the appearance of Catwoman and Bane (played by Tom Hardy and one of his trademark ridiculous Tom Hardy voices) causes him to come out of retirement like Jordan or Mario Lemieux or something. Well, one for three ain't bad Chris!

GRADE: D+

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "Data's Day"

Data writes a letter to that scientist who tried to turn him into Starfleet property about a day in his life. It's not a "normal" day, whatever that means on the Enterprise, because he's giving Keiko away in her and Miles' wedding (after almost ruining the wedding, oops), and there's some Romulan intrigue, but he does call Geordi a lunkhead and play with Spot so that's normal I guess.

GRADE: C-
