@cult-de-sac -- ❝ don’t you know better than that by now ? ❞
“Maybe,” Joseph admits, looking up at Robert pleadingly with those big blue eyes of his “But it’s still worth a try.”
They had been in this position time and time again.
With Robert attempting to turn away from their ‘indecent escapades’ for good, but he had always returned to him. Joseph had no doubt that this time would be the same.
“You will change nothing by turning your back on what we have, you know,” he told him, “Not make anything better, at least. You will only …” Joseph sighed deeply, finally turning his gaze away from Robert “Make me miss you terribly.”
This old song and dance was going to be the death of him. Certainly wasn’t making the graying at his temples go any slower. It was always the same.
Robert drank too much, he went to Joseph. He was feeling down about himself? Went to Joseph. If he was going to hate himself he might as well feel good during it, right? Joseph was companionship and even more than that, Robert actually had feelings for the guy. Frustrating. The man made him happy until the reality of it all came crashing down in his thoughts.
Stupid. Stupid. Nothing would ever come out of this. Nothing good. Not with a married man.
Words rolled off Joseph’s tongue sweet as honey, working him like usual. Yeah, Robert always came back. Well, Robert wasn’t growling, he wasn’t storming off, he seemed pretty passive right now. So he wasn’t exactly disagreeing with the minister’s statements. “I need a drink,” he decided finally, reaching for his flask with a look of indifference as he tried to ignore those bright blue eyes. “Do you want some?”
