In 2013 Los Angeles ended a 10 year ban on public murals and Robert Vargas was poised to be the first artist out of the gate with "Our Lady of DTLA." Four years later Vargas, himself part Native American and part Mexican, set a new milestone overlooking Pershing Square in LA with the nation's largest mural featuring a Native American and for a brief time the record-holder for largest mural by a single artist. The young Tongva girl, watched over by angels, serves as a daily reminder to the bustling city of who its original inhabitants were. Gabrielino-Tongva tribal chairman Bernie Acuna was asked to bless the site first and told @LATimes “Things like what Robert is doing are amazing for our tribe. He’s letting people see the real history of Los Angeles.” @therobertvargas/
