listen. babe listen. i lov ur camille. hes so good. i didnt think id ever get this invested in camille desmoulins but here we are and its ALL UR FAULT I SWEAR IT IS
how’s my portrayal? / always accepting tbh
aww darling, you’re so good and so very gay ... and for the record,
THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT DON’T EVEN DENY IT
But because his character was weak some have said that his campaign for clemency in the last year of his life was a campaign of fear, undertaken to save his own life ; and others, that he had not the stomach to endure the cruelties which made the military victories possible. Yet all that history tells us is that he risked his life, and lost his life, for saying what Robespierre believed, but dared not say ; what Robespierre, at last, said in a whisper, which was overheard, and which brought him, too, to his death ; what Saint-Just came back to say after Fleurus. The answer that he spoke too soon, that it was unsafe to abolish the tyranny of the Committee at that time, is no answer. [Camille] recognized the necessity of the Terror, but pleaded that it should not be applied blindly and indiscriminately. He hated two things above all others : purposeless cruelty and the sombre Jansenist dream of Robespierre. The vision he saw was Danton's happy Republic.
J.B. Morton, ‘Camille Desmoulins (and Other Studies of the French Revolution)’ 1950
camille desmoulins is 5'10", approximately 8" taller than his boyfriend maximilien françois marie isidore de robespierre
camille towers over maxime's desk, the only thing separating him from throttling the lawyer himself.
"i don't need your permission to leave," he says, his eyes fixed on the man. his voice is smooth as the wood beneath his fingers, without scratches nor dents where his impediment might reach. "i did not come here to be lectured, maxime. i only did what you asked of me. i did everything, every word, every idea down on paper for france to behold, and now you are threatening me with politics?"
where he might have slammed his fists, as was his usual way when he raged, his hands simply slid off the desk as he turns. "i don't know who you are anymore," he continues, grabbing his hat. "a man who once believed in freedom and liberty, for the good of france, he does not sit in this room. you must say something to the committee, or i will."
@robespierrem continued from here.
camille desmoulins: i have done nothing wrong , ever , in my life
maximilien robespierre: i know this and i love you

“ you are destroying france with your folly and i will not allow you to destroy what i have built! do not forget, maxime, that i can easily take back what i have given to you! i made your revolution possible, i did the dirty work. don’t think i will hesitate to give you the same faith that you gave camille and georges if you continue down this road. ”
terror and virtue, what a grand lie. this was only terror and she could feel france crying out. the revolution had practically changed nothing for the poor common people, trusting humans to make their own government a better one had failed and it was a mistake she wouldn’t make again. apparently they couldn’t be trusted with their own land so from now she would do everything in her power to make the decisions for them. and she’d do anything necessary to regain the greatness he was costing her.
she was france. she decided what direction this country went in. and right now she was moving away from the republic and back to the monarchy.
@robespierrem a réagi à votre billet : maxime : it’s not versailles but it’s comfortable...
max vc: …….i need you to leave right now immediately
camille vc: haha and then what ;)))
