There's no middle names in French, though. It's not a thing we do. So, technically, if they do it right, he won't have one.

yeah, of course, at least I've met one Jean-Baptiste in my life (he was French) so I know it's in use in this day and age. but like, they could have named him Kevin or Steve and that would have been more realistic because Kevins and Steves are the fucking plague of French Canada. there's nothing as ridiculous as a guy named, like, Steve Beauregard.

but hey, if they wanted to go down the stereotypical, outdated road for the name of their "French Canadian" character, I have suggestions:

I put maple syrup on EVERYTHING. I bought a litre of real maple syrup from Québec from Costco the other day. I bake it into my pancakes and then ALSO put it on top. I have done shots of pure maple syrup.

have you ever tried to pour it in pea soup? it's so good I could weep.

Random fact: the last time I went to a cabane à sucre was when I was six. In 1995. (I feel weird calling them sugar shacks)

the last time I went must have been 3 or 4 years ago? but I used to go every year as a child. I can feel a 3-4 year long craving for pea soup with maple syrup in it, beans cooked in maple syrup then covered with maple syrup, scrambled eggs with maple syrup, ham cooked in maple syrup and then covered with maple syrup, mashed potatoes drowned in maply syrup oreilles de Christ with maple syrup and then sugar pie and tire sur la neige growing in me.

but it also reminds me that my great-uncles who have a cabane à sucre in Gaspésie are now too old to operate it and the jug we have in the freezer is probably the last one we'll ever get and it makes me so fucking sad

(yeah it's weird to talk about sugar shacks. never doing it again. it's a cabane à sucre, dammit)
