Cowboy Dad by Robin Nicholas Silhouette Romance 1327 - October 1998
Some words from Robin Nicholas, one of the typographers behind the font Arial. You're probably maligned his work so much, you may as well get to know his face/voice/thoughts.
Something to bear in mind: If you're going to steal, do it better. You don't hear people regularly maligning Univers or Helvetica for deriving its form from Akzidenz-Grotesk.
(to be frank, you don't hear much either about MS Sans Serif, or Monotype Grotesk, or even of typographic lineages in the critique of fonts: i genuinely think a lot of people dislike fonts just because they've been told to, without necessarily knowing why)
Here is a video of Robin Nicholas creator of Arial discussing his creative inspirations and his thoughts on the evolution of fonts.
