The Pace Report: "A Bandleader Leads By Example" The Ravi Coltrane Interview

Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and his quartet performing live at Birdland in New York City.

Ravi's latest record "Spirit Fiction" is his first on the legendary Blue Records label and his sixth as a leader. During Ravi's run at Birdland his quartet featured some of today's best and brightest musicians as well as special guests which included Robin Eubanks on trombone, Ralph Alessi on trumpet, Orrin Evans on piano, Dezron L Douglas on bass, and E.J. Strickland on drums.

I sat down with Ravi briefly to talk about his role as a bandleader and how he coordinates his time practicing and composing, and his latest collaboration with NEA Jazz Master and drummer Jack DeJohnette.
