Microfic – Dance

Kestrel looked out the window at a gloomy, rain-swept day. In this bustling town of lively trade and exotic magical goods, where the air carried the tangy bite of unfamiliar spices, she felt more alone than ever.

No one here knew who she was—or who she had been. Cast out from the Five Duchies, with no home to return to, no sister, no coterie, no future dragon to carve together.

No one knew who she was.

Did that mean it was up to her to decide?

Perhaps her life was hers to shape after all. Perhaps it was time to create her own future.

Determined, she pulled on her cloak and slung her market bag over her shoulder. She would not let the rain deter her. Hood up, she stepped outside.

Her steps felt light. The rain was cool on her face, cleansing—like shedding the weight of her old life and slipping into something new.

She could be Kettle: an anonymous adventurer exploring this strange town and its curious customs.

Suddenly she noticed she was dancing—alone, just her and the rain, twirling through puddles with no one to watch or judge.

I read them over the course of a few years and it will just be forever my favourite series of all time. Nothing will ever beat it.
