The version of the Russian edition of "The Deptford Mice". I found it on my shelf and an interesting idea visited me ...
What a lovely day for a trudge through the woods. Currently rereading The Crystal Prison, the second volume of Robin Jarvis’s Deptford Mice trilogy. A childhood favourite! There’s a lot going on in these books: paganism, hidden London, folk horror, green man (mouse) mythology.
‘I see you walk a dangerous rope midshipmouse. Reality and memory ought never to entwine so closely! Beware your dreams and forget what has passed.’
So says the Greenwich Starwife (a squirrel).
I'm late to the game but I've decided to try my hand at the #janbookstagram18 Today's challenge is #bookandbeverage so I'm camped out in my local #costa and I brought this book with me especially. It's not the book I'm reading at the moment. I haven't read it for years but it goes everywhere with me. It's been in and out of my suitcase since I was twelve years old. It's been to France and Majorca. It came with me to uni. It has graced book shelves in my mum and dad's house, three sets of uni digs and our first family home. It is battered and creased, torn and bent. It is loved. No matter how long it's been since I last read it, it never ends up in the charity box. I barely remember the story but I remember picking it up a dozen times and being absorbed by it. This book and Harry Potter kept little #booklover me enthralled for hours. Thank you #robinjarvis for writing #deathscent all those years ago and giving me the #readingbug I can't wait to share this with my son. #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #book #readinf #booklover #booknerd
