“lex: i gave superman every possible opportunity to be my ally instead...”
hilariously--or horrifically, depending on who you ask--this also fits dkr!bruce to a tee. yay for nonsuperpowered determinator prodigies and their blatant authority issues!
so bruce wayne and lex luthor are literally the same person with exactly three crucial distinctions. they are:
in a choice between justice and power, bruce will choose justice and lex will choose power. for bruce, the death of his parents taught him that no amount of power or money can save you from injustice. for lex, a childhood rife with abuse and crushing poverty taught her that if you have money and power, you get to decide what justice is.
bruce is old wealth. lex is new wealth. bruce was born into a life of immense, endless material comforts and carved himself a niche that is deeply uncomfortable on a personal level but has few material risks. lex was born into a life of soul-crippling lack of even the most basic material comforts, and built her entire empire herself. her every action in opposition to anyone who seeks to control her is done with a calculated assessment of material risk. bruce is never in danger of losing his wealth, and so can actively use it any way he sees fit. lex is always in danger of losing her wealth, and so must constantly cultivate and tend to it.
and finally:
bruce is old and busted. lex is the new hotness
