Robin Rhode | Car on Bricks, 2008 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In 1998 South African artist Robin Rhode chalked the image of a bicycle on a Johannesburg city wall, and then attempted to ride it. The "action" is captured in a series of photographs in which the artist fails to mount the "bike," then checks the "tires" and "chain," before finally grabbing the "handle bars" and "pushing" it away. The idea for the piece, Classic Bike, is based on a childhood initiation rite in which senior pupils force younger ones to interact with objects drawn on school lavatory walls.
