URGH stop. writing this is like speedrunning how many characters are referred/seen as male. which is fine usually because #i have my own issues, but like. wow okay so really we are fucking running in circles. were all men now and then when we bring in women it has to be femme. WHICH I HAVE MAJOR BEEF WITH. please. do you fucking know what femme means bro.. did you know women arent limited to being femme and it doesnt devalue that they are women.... this stupid false dychotomy of mech/femme pisses me off so bad because okay. thats not how that works. i think that completely bypassing this whole gender/sex garbage would make more sense but fundamentally i have no idea how you would go about it. because gender/sex (especially in english/settler north american, the main origine and targetted group involved with transformers, certainly on tumblr, a primairly stated social media for that region) is so so so "set". you cant really do anything at all without it having been assigned some value on the male/female scale. fucking hell not even being "nonbinary" in this case can escape. its not being nonbinary, its not neatly fitting into that line of sex. and what do you then?? well you identify if "nonbinary" is alligned with "the better sex" (male) and boom if its not then look. its female at its core. which you know isnt how it works, and for sure a decent amount of queer and nonqueer people understand, but its so ingraine, so implicite that you cant really walk two centimeters without having to recon with it. picking and choosing your battles is great, because it means that you dont always have to be fighting. but also if you dont have some kind of community towards being who you are with reducing the normative roles as part of the essence then your probably not going to be feeling so great because youll be yourself to you but nobody will recognize it as it is. they will place you into their neat and tidy box of being wrong. and also like if you want to make cybertronian genders or whatever you kiinda gotta go deep with the worldbuilding and societal environment. you cant have gender and sex without society and transformers society is oft reduced to "decepticons are evil and mean and violent; autobots are nice and good and only violent because their hands were forced" which could lead to idw style functionism, and everything does tend to round back towards some vague interpretation of functionism. im sure that there are plenty of interesting ways of having a "robot gender scale" other than functionism. but at its core, with the worldbuilding, functionism does in fact make sense, and it does provide a fairly efficient mirror to queerness in a way. youve been assigned a role based off of things like "what you look like" "what your body is capable of doing" and "what your body cant do" but like look for a second longer and its all bullshit. this whole "oh no we can trace xyz societal issue to one or two specific cybertronians" is super annyoing because. its a lot more nuanced than that, there are a lot more factors at play, you understand. which also kinda forcibly drags over towards population and time. what is the estimated population of cybertron. how many cybertronians never get shown. we always follow the same few bots across continuitys and never really
deal with any of the sideways exploration, we dont go round seeing the random ass communities that kinda form. and if we do, they tend to stay extremely localized with strong ties towards our "main cast" which is a pain because doing that reinforces that very strange centralism that always brings us back to megatron and optimus prime. we dont need to be doing that. there are already plenty of other things we could be doing but nobody cares because nobody cares, because those things dont bring in as much money, those things are succesfull. (a real person would insert bar graphs about which products of transformers bring in the largest amount of revenue with sources and all that professional stuff but im fine running the possiblilty of lying.) theres this amazing lack of diversity in tranfsormers, which is almost hard to believe from how much fucking shit under that brand name there is. hasbro by any chance do you happen to be a really big american corporation designed to make as much money as possible while putting the least amount of time money and effort into your products.
arcee coulda been fucking awesome..... i thikn i have to do the dirty work. they were setting this aesome thing up, this important thing! and then they were like "yeah actually its not even important were not gonna spend more than 3 seconds glancing over it" i dont give a sngle flying fuck about how evil and horrible desaimir is to megatron and how hes beeing groomed for violence (hell its not even an interesting approach to his violence) you guys could have used all that space to actually deal with arcee bro. the potential please. like shes gone thru shit and your just like yeah okay whaterver. doesnt even matter shes gonna be a magnus. obviously if magnus is some kind of title, with ultra magnus (his name is flat out ultra?) being held with a certain level of respect that brings him closer to prime. lowkey you are fucking wrecking your own worldbuilding by going "yeah you play bloxel rebound to attain that title". no no no you cant just do that!!
