@runwaymagazines || @fashiontextilemuseum (@get_repost) On International Women's Day we celebrate the Museum founder and design pioneer Zandra Rhodes and the photographer Robyn Beeche, who took this portrait in 1981. #iwd2017 #internationalwomensday #zandrarhodes #robynbeeche The Australian photographer Robyn Beeche (1945-2015) documented the post-punk and New Romantic fashion and music scene of 1980s London. Working with experimental make-up artists such as Richard Sharples and Phyllis Cohen, she produced a series of striking pictures capturing the distinctive style of the designer Zandra Rhodes, the director John Water’s 'muse' Divine and her fellow Australian expatriate, the performance artist Leigh Bowery. Attracted to highly creative artists and designers, Robyn Beeche not only went backstage at Andrew Logan’s Alternative Miss World competition but also recorded the partnership between the late designer and pop music entrepreneur Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood; she was granted exclusive access to photograph their unusual London retail outlets, World’s End and Nostalgia Of Mud, as well as the influential fashion collections the pair presented on catwalks in Paris and London in the early 1980s. Her own creativity encouraged figures from the worlds of fashion, hairdressing and make-up to work together on projects which she would then photograph, with elaborate lighting set-ups, over sessions lasting up to 12 hours. One example is Robyn Beeche’s artwork for the record sleeve of the hit single by the singer and nightlife entrepreneur Steve Strange’s electro-pop group Visage. #robynbeechephotography #zandrarhodesportrait #1981 #pinkhair #selfexpression #australianphotographer #portraitphotography #makeup #womenphotographers #womenfromhistory #SheInspiresMe #officialrunwaymagazine #eleonoradegray #editorinchief #parisnewyorklosangeles #runwaymagazine

Continuously documenting vibrant, opposing worlds from post-punk/new romantic sub-cultures to Hindu ceremonies. The great retrospective of #robynbeeche, currently showing at @blackeyegallery. (at Black eye gallery)
"Ever been to a party in a not very exclusive dress and had that feeling that someone else is bound to be wearing the same thing? Or, maybe, you simply can’t afford more than one dress for the party season. Here are some smart ideas on how to ring the changes with just one number and be the belle of the ball every single time."
