Uncle Tim has armed our first recruit...
My 18th month old son is ready for practice thanks to a killer christmas gift from his Uncle Tim. He runs around swatting at everything with his new hurley. He goes crazy with laughter when I dribble his foam sliotar for him.
We are getting the future generations of roc city hurlers ready for their succession.
Roc City Hurling is Born!
Welcome everyone to our new website and blog. We are endeavoring to kick start a gaelic hurling league right here in Rochester NY. This is the brain child of Tim Russell, David Walker and Bill McGuire. When Tim asked me for my little sister's hand in marriage back in 2012 it came with a caveat. That caveat was not explored fully till my other brother-in-law, Dave Walker joined tim and I for a few pints. I cannot be said which of the many pint ladden planning sessions we nailed down this plan. Simply put though, Tim was leaving his hometown Milwaukee, WI where he was a proud member of the Milwaukee Hurling Club. He said that besides friends, family and wisconsin beer; hurling was the thing he would have the toughest time without. Dave and I offered a quick remedy for that!
A wedding, a few more pints and some pestering has brought this together. We have begun by recruiting friends, family and other league associates. We hope to model this league after the very successful Milwaukee Hurling Clud. They have upwards of 13 adult teams active a season, plus a large youth league as well. We hope to create some official ties or partnerships with them in the coming months and years. They have created a league that is open to all, centered around the game, irish culture, community and of course good competition. We hope to tap that success and bring it to upstate new york.
I will leave the intro to this for now, but stay posted for more to come. We want to make this a fun, competive and family center affair. We hope to see you soon and a recruiting event coming to a local irish water hole near you!
