Charles (Charlie) Robert Watts (born 2 June 1941- August 24, 2021) is best known as the drummer for the band. He started his career by playing in jazz and blues clubs. He began with jazz and eventually transitioned into R&B and rock. 1963 he joined the group after meeting Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Watts played drums and designed their record sleeves and tour stages. While playing with the Rolling Stones, he toured with his group, The Charlie Watts Quintet, and appeared at London’s infamous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club with the Charlie Watts Tentet. In 2006, He was elected to the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. Watts has always had a flair for fashion and was best dressed by Vanity Fair in the same year, 2006. He is ranked 12th in Rolling Stone’s “ 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time” list. Watts kept the beat for The Rolling Stones until his passing. Watts was a solid drummer, someone the band could depend on. Watts still plays a part in rock music’s rich tapestry.
