His captors are researchers/scientists who love merpeople but have been forced to take a ‘live specimen’ by corporate executives who just want him for profit. Their plan is to use him for entertainment (like a SeaWorld situation) or sell off parts of him to the highest bidder.
Padme is one of the scientists who was against capture. She gets Anakin the sanitation job at her lab, but doesn’t tell him about Obi-Wan as that is TOP SECRET.
Obi-Wan is the first merman to ever be put into captivity. Qui-Gon always told him he was ‘too curious about humans’ with him always going to the surface. Though once fascinated by humans, he starts to hate them after they capture him. (Until he meets Anakin of course 😌)
So I thought it’d be fun to share some of the obscure reference images I use in Guiding Light.
