She questioned her own actions as she walked through the library halls, books on either side. What if she didn’t find him here? This city was huge, after all, and as determined as he seemed, there was a chance he’d moved onto other goals.
But Amity saw him right where she’d last left him a few days ago, his face buried in a book. She approached, reaching into her bag for the cards.
“Hello again, Sir. It’s me, Amity. I was just thinking about what you said...about making friends being the primary goal here.” She cleared her throat as she pulled out the Hexas Holdem cards.
Amity had worked hard to make them as accurate to a real set from home as she could, trying to remember every card type until she had a whole deck. All the art on them was her own, something she was shy about showing off—and she’d even laminated them all.
“So—” She nervously shuffled the cards in her hands. “Do you want to play a round with me? I could tell your fortune. I’m not a practicing oracle like my mom, but it’s more just for fun.”
