rockyroadsandhiddenvalleys, the brownie itself was a simple one from scratch with cocoa and flour and butter and whatnot. I think what makes it “German” in this case is the topping that goes with it. It was made of coconut, pecans, evaporated milk, brown sugar, and egg yolks. That topping is for some reason what always makes chocolate cake-like desserts “German,” over here. :D
