Space: Above and Beyond – Who Monitors the Birds?
My favourite episode of one of my favourite ever series Space: Above and Beyond (which was created by X-Files alums Glen Morgan and James Wong).
1st Lieutenant Cooper Hawkes was my favourite character. An ‘In Vitro’ (also known as the the in-universe slur ‘tanks’) he is one of a race of artificially gestated humans. This episode showed his backstory escaping from the In Vitro facility where he was born.
Undergoing a form of brain-washing to make them all compliant and subservient, Cooper dares to ask a question that results in him having to flee for his life. It was powerful stuff, especially back in the early nineties.
I have the series on DVD so I may just have to do a re-watch at some point. 😉
