On a more upbeat note from yesterday, I bring you Rod Williams of the TSA. Chris Washington’s best friend in Jordan Peele’s instant classic Get Out, Rod is the comic relief, but he is also incredibly savvy, intelligent, and driven to save his friend when he believes him to be in danger. Though it is played for laughs, Rod uses his investigative skills to get to the bottom of just what is happening, and he displays exactly why horror should have more diversity. I would write more, but for the sake of spoilers I’ll let you go check out just how rad Rod is for yourselves. T-S-Motherfuckin’-A.

(SPOILER WARNINGS)

Extroverted Intuition (Ne): Rod is quite visionary. As soon as Chris gives him insight about all the oddities he’s come across at Rose’s house, he immediately begins theorizing and jumping to outrageous (but surprisingly plausible) conclusions without needing any physical evidence. He enforces these ideas onto Chris and tries to get him to consider the possibilities of what trouble he could get into, both jokingly and seriously. Of course, when he shares his off-the-rail theories with the authorities, they laugh at him because of how far-fetched they come off as.

Introverted Thinking (Ti): Rod, despite his goofy nature, is very objective and rational in his thinking. Even though Chris is his best friend and he generally liked Rose as his girlfriend, he still told him how he thought meeting her parents in their own home was a bad idea. He analyzes just about every piece of information he could find with logic; their friend Andre was at the family reunion even though he’s presumed missing? Something’s clearly wrong! He debates the possibilities back and forth of what could be going on there, but comes to a conclusion very quickly: Chris is in trouble.

Extroverted Feeling (Fe): But above these traits, Rod is a funny, laid-back, and gregarious person. He’s forthcoming in expressing his doubts and speculations about Rose’s family and in what happened to the missing persons. He lightens up the tension, no matter how brutal the situation has become, with humor and sarcasm. He even couldn’t help himself in reminding Chris that he’d warned him to begin with: “I told you not to go in that house…”

Introverted Sensing (Si): Rod didn’t take what he saw in front of him to face value; he went by his gut-intuition that something just felt off without having out any facts until he searched for them himself. His memories did prove useful to him – as soon as he recognized Andre in the photo, he used this as incentive to start doing some research and put the clues all together. He goes by possibilities more than what he knows, however.
