You know someone who needs to be talked about more? Rodney friggin' Fox, man. Man was brutally attacked by a great white shark, enough to need FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO STITCHES, and what does he do?

Not only does he help study plenty of Great Whites, but he becomes one of the biggest shark conservationists in the fucking world.

Put some respect on his name.

The image is of the legendary grandmaster “Kallel", who always seemed to have a lot of wisdom and method in his movements each year of the 7 years of recorded visits to us at the Neptune Islands.

We have not seen this wonderful old boy for many years now and do miss his surprising appearances suddenly from around the corner of the cage at extremely close range. Interestingly he had probably reached his maximum size, as to our eye he didn't seem to grow any longer than about 4m over the entire 7 years that we got to know this extremely robust chap.

Andrew Fox

Female great white sharks are "tearing it up" right now at the Neptune Islands. Females including some real Big Girls, usually arrive as early as April, and occasionally also extend their residency past the month of August here each year.

Shark Tails

A lot of great white shark images understandably focus on the incredible jaws and teeth up at the front end of the shark while the other end seems to lack much attention. However it is this mighty caudal ( tail) fin behind the sharks incredible muscular and hydrodynamic body that drives the shark with such amazing acceleration in attacking its prey. Speeds of up 40 kilometers per hour (25 mph) are reached and at times this can enable these sharks to launch more than 10 feet (3.0 m) into the air.

Cherub

We haven't actually got around to officially profiling and naming this large female anything else (yet?) and her nickname Cherub has now kinda stuck. She was one of the first Big Girls we saw this peak season at the North Neptune Islands.
