grinding Roetel (Sanguine, red ferric hematite clay) from the last active German mining in Franconia. I use it for making watercolors, acrylic colors, inks. excited about a new iron oxide pigment. Roetel (sanguine, red chalk) from Kremer Pigmente. Raw pieces can be used for drawing onto.paper. The lines can be easily washed with water. Drawing onto wet paper is also possible, and the pigment makes a very good ink. I think it is kind of a ferric clay containing mostly hematite. But it has a slightly orange tone, other than the deeper reddish hematite ochres . Maybe there is some limonite present in the Roetel additionally.
