A tribute tonight on Broadway to my uncle Roger Rees -- the lights were dimmed. His picture was on the marquee. The whole block applauded. Truly amazing. Miss you Rog #rogerrees
I've held off posting anything about my Uncle Roger mostly because everyone else has already been acknowledging him and it is still too sad. Fortunately Roger left his mark as evidenced by Google searches and Twitter trends from the other day when he passed. If you want to know about an incredible man, a terrific performer and creator, and the best Uncle anyone could have google him. Or better still go watch his past performances online #rogerrees #bestuncle
In looking for a Roger Rees tribute… I have failed. That’s just how it goes sometimes. How looking up “Roger Rees” “Playing Shakespeare” led me to an audio recording of Richard Burton’s Coriolanus is, well… whatever it is. But I’m glad it happened. This is pretty spectacular, and while it is too long an audio for you to peruse casually, I urge you to find some time and close your eyes and put it on.
I’ve always loved radio… loving Shakespeare often means I’m content to simply listen for hours (as I have this evening, with a bit of whiskey). It’s probably (now that I think of it) part of the reason I love baseball so much: you can fully enjoy and understand a game simply by listening to it (as I often do).
All that to say… it’s worth it. This and so much else that is only available out there if you have the patience and time to simply listen to it. I hope you do.
It was an honor to take your photograph, Mr. Rees. #wtfestival2014 #RogerRees
