He had to keep the emergency management of Storybrooke at peace. With everyone constantly overworked, underpaid, and at wits’ end with magical maladies and adversaries, the least he could do would be to offer donuts on the weekend. He was a little late with this delivery. This was the hospital’s alliance with everyone in Storybrooke in the hopes that everything and everyone ran smoothly. Arthur pushed his way past the door of the sheriff’s department with the pink box in hand. “Emma? David…?” Nothing. Silence. Usually the door was locked if they were out or there was someone to tell him to leave the donuts and coffee. This was strange. The hair on his arms stood on end. “Emma?” “Emma!” He didn’t particularly care about the waste of bear claws now spilled across the floor. At least the coffee hadn’t spilled, but he was most concerned about having a work area now. “It’s me. It’s me! I’m here… Shit…” They always looked bad. The question was how much damage was done on the inside? The small doctor had knelt at Emma’s side to try an assess the situation by sight alone. “Can you answer me? Emma. Don’t strain to talk if you can’t!” Images flashed before him. He could see a baby in his arms. Tiny. Crying. She was a beautiful little miracle and she was Emma. Now she was laying there. He had no time.
No, someone was calling for her. She stopped trying to reach out for something to kill the intruder with, turning more on her side. Doc. Okay, that was a hell of a lot of good luck right there, since no other help would be able to come.
“I’m here and I can answer...” she was more weak than in pain, which she didn’t know if it was good news or bad news, or just temporary news. It did still hurt a lot, but not so much that her anger wouldn’t be enough to keep her awake and going. “Don’t worry, I’m not letting anyone kill me with a... stupid gun. You have to be careful, he’s still out there, and there are more... I heard other people fight too, but... I don’t know who.” She closed her eyes, swallowing down because the effort of speaking was making her feel a bit more pain somehow.
