1995 called and said SOLO occupies a wierd liminal space between a standard superhero origin story, and a pilot for either favreau's upcoming tv series, or a whole solo adjacent rogue era prequel trilogy i really hope disney actually makes. there's been a lot of noise abt star wars fatigue or blockbuster fatigue or superhero fatigue, but that always feels fake bc, like, nobody ever talks about 'nyc cop show fatigue' or whatever. i can't shake the feeling that a subset of, idk, woody allen fans have never forgiven 'mainstream' aka low culture audiences for liking mass market popular things and not, idk, whatever they think a han solo origin movie featuring a signiicant plotline about how there is open slavery of droids and humans in the star wars universe, and maybe someone should do something about that, isn't offering. like no it's not the most complicated script in even the rogue era, but it's a fun heist movie and follows warren ellis(?)'s rule of bringing in as many new ideas as it dusts off old ones to play with. #solo #roguetwo #prequels #eu #kenner
