So, just a heads up, y'all: the new Roku players with USB slots (such as the Roku Ultra) don’t work with USB 3.0 devices. Even though their earlier models did. And even though it is 2016. And even though the Roku Ultra is a 129 dollar device. USB 2.0 should work fine, but ugh.

I really wish someone had given me a heads up before I had gotten it, because honestly I would not have gotten it if I’d known. This new development messes with a lot of my media viewing (maybe that’s just me??). And I felt like the USB capabilities set it apart from a lot of competing streaming boxes, but not supporting USB 3.0 on a new model that has a steep price tag is a bit ridic.

If you’re stuck like me and have all USB 3.0 drives you use with personal media or whatever, I’ve heard it suggested you get something like this to give your USB 3.0 device more power because the issue is something about the new Rokus not giving the USB 3.0 devices enough power. Don’t quote me on that though. And I have not tried the linked hub device thing out myself so I don’t know for sure if it fixes the problem (sorry)!

Anyway, tech problems. I dunno if anyone else will find this helpful, but just thought I’d put it out there just in case. I emailed Roku too to express my eternal pain and sadness and ask they don’t do this on future models.
