NOCTURNAL FEAST OF NOROS

Rebecca was deemed old enough to stay up past midnight when she was seven years old

This was met with protests from her sister, Isabella, who thought she and Cecily were both old enough, as well

Rebecca agreed with her parents that her sisters were not ready (she hadn’t been at six, after all, and she also wished to go, herself, first before her sisters so she would know what to expect and could prepare them for it) 

She promised to tell them everything she saw and she was confident that next year, the three of them would be able to go together

Rebecca’s father did agree that Roland could come with them: he was to be in disguise, after all

Rebecca went as Ethylene - who has often been credited as the first woman dragon rider

She was having a grand time with Roland <33

Rebecca was only four years old when her mother died and she had felt responsible for her younger sisters ever since that moment and tbh she definitely enjoyed just being able to be a kid

That lasted for about 20 minutes before she noticed two little children dressed as a dragon and a ghost who were dancing wildly around the fire

She knew immediately that it was Isabella and Cecily while part of her was determined to send them back home to bed immediately, she decided to let them have a bit of fun

(And also because she, herself, didn’t want to miss anything)

She pointed them out to Roland (who was very surprised more action wasn’t being taken on Rebecca’s part and commended her for it :D)

Rebecca did make him promise that between the two of them, they would keep them in their sights and then send them home later before it had gotten too late

The trouble was that, before long, she and Roland both lost themselves in the festivities and did not realize until much later that they did not know what had happened to the girls

Rebecca went straight up to their bedroom when they arrived home and, seeing that both girls were missing, alerted her father 

They searched all night and Rebecca was on the verge of confessing that she had thought she saw them both, earlier, and said nothing when they were discovered, hours later, asleep in the tree outside their bedroom

To this day, Roland is the only one who knows that Rebecca saw the two of them that night

Feast of Noros

Beatrice’s mother allowed her to attend the feast and stay up past the midnight hour when she was ten years old 

Tbh Beatrice had a mixture of both excitement and nervousness about the whole thing

She’d heard tales from both Cecily and Isabella, which eased her own fears a bit, but truth be told she was somewhat apprehensive about the entire experience

If her mother hadn’t already promised Constance that she would be allowed to attend the following year, Beatrice might have gone to her mother and said that she wasn’t ready ... but as it was, she felt it her duty to tell her siblings what it was like and be there to help Constance during her first time

(Alexander and Cassandra both, especially, were jealous and insisted that she tell them everything that happened -- and not to leave out a single detail!) 

Although Beatrice had her own reservations, she would not let it on to any of them -- she must always be stoic and brave in front of her younger siblings 

Beatrice dressed as Rosamund - the heroine of a tragic fairytale where a bride was tricked by an evil fae and drowned on her wedding night. It is said that she haunts the forests on the Noros, forever separated from her sweetheart, cursed to dwell in the land between the living and the dead  

All of Beatrice’s fears fell away when she met up with the elder Turner girls and all of them ran a bit wild ran the fires and later, into the woods, Beatrice finding her bravery in the company of her dearest friends

They didn’t see anything in the forests that night (much to Isabella’s disappointment) but they stayed there as long as their parents would allow, daring to explore the darker corners of the woods -- giggling and whispering as they went 

With the help of Roland, they did manage to jump out and scare a group of young boys who had been terrorizing other young children who were fearful on their first feast of norors

At the end of the night, Beatrice’s mother allowed Beatrice to go home with the Turner girls, and the four of them stayed up late by the fireside (later joined by Lucy and Eleanor who had not slept a wink since they were sent to bed) 

They shared the last of the remembrance cakes that they had brought back and told ghost stories in the fort they’d made by the fire after striping their beds of the sheets and quilts

Alistair found them the next morning: all five of them curled up asleep on the floor

II. TWO SKIES

I don’t think Rebecca sees too much of it anymore (Robert Persimmons alone has seen to this haha), but she does adore those rare peaceful afternoons where she and her sisters are able to rest and enjoy their respectful employments. Rebecca loves to read, but she also likes to play the piano, when she can and I imagine that she might play something like this.

III. THE SHORES OF SCOTLAND

Adventure! Dragonriding! Feeling the wind in her hair and viewing the world from a dragon’s breath! Practicing in the yard with wooden swords! Target practice! (Alternatively exploring and adventuring as kids, too, in the woods surrounding their home with Roland and her sisters!) 

IV. CLOCKS (VITAMIN STRING QUARTET COVER)

Honestly VSQ has made me think of KK ever since Protecting the Weak (<333) This rendition is both peaceful and hopeful and kinda inspiring and idk, I do sorta feel like this captures what it felt like when she first fell in love with Will and everything was great!! And she had such high hopes for the future, at that point, because it felt like they could do anything and ngl she definitely dreamed of a happy life together, when they would be able to settle down after the resistance had done its job and lkajdflj

Plots & Plans || Roland + Eleanor

“Ah, there you are!”

Eleanor disliked her step mother for a multitude of reasons, including her constant presence in their lives leading to less and less time with Roland. Maria had nearly squealed with joy when she caught sight of Isabella and Roland walking together a few months earlier having thought that her sister was conversing intimately with Admiral Allerdale. Everyone had agreed-- at the request of their father-- that they must take more care not to let Maria see the sisters with their dear friend Roland. The last thing anyone needed was to draw more attention to the fact that Roland and the Admiral were fae.

Add into the equation that Robert Persimmons was lurking about their home, it was nearly impossible for Roland Marks to be seen on the Turner property.

This of course meant that meetings with Roland were now organized and planned ahead, which make this decidedly less charming than the days when one might just come upon Roland in the garden or the kitchens or sleeping off a night of debauchery in an extra bedroom. This day, with Maria out for the with her Papa and Robert off reporting absolute nonsense to Captain Mallerton,  Eleanor could meet with Roland in the gardens without worry.

“What flowers shall I have at my wedding to Mr. Persimmons?” Eleanor inquired, seating herself on the garden bench alongside the gentleman. “Daisies? Daffodils? Dandelions? Oh, and perhaps we should plan now for you to walk me down the aisle. I believe by the time my wedding takes place, Mr. Persimmons will have uncovered all sorts of terrible deeds Papa has done and he shall be in prison awaiting trial for treason and, therefore, unable to give his daughter away.”

Eleanor glanced sideways at Roland for a few moments before breaking down and letting out a laugh. “Can you even imagine? Its so utterly ridiculous! Did I tell you that he told me I am not the only woman he is considering proposing marriage to? I’ve yet to uncover if there are any other prospects outside of my sisters, but I pity anyone who has made that undesirable list.”

“Have you managed to make any headway in convincing him that Lucy is a spy as well? Allerdale seems to have thwarted all of your attempts to reassign him elsewhere,” Eleanor rolled her eyes at her mention of the Admiral. “Does he honestly think that fool would ever uncover evidence Papa works with the resistance?”

Master of Schemes || Roland + Lucy

Lucy tried not to be resentful of Maria, however there were so many things she missed from the days before her father brought his new wife home. It was hard enough hiding their association with the rebellion from most of their neighbors, but it was completely different hiding it from another occupant of their own household.

And, as much as she enjoyed her solitude, she also missed the comings and goings of the other rebels, namely their dear friend Roland. There was a time when Lucy might have simply found Roland dozing in their sitting room midafternoon. While the thought of Maria thinking Admiral Allerdale chose to nap in their house without warning was amusing, she knew it was better for everyone to follow their father’s lead and keep Maria focused on other things. (Lucy simply wished that wasn’t finding matches for she and her sisters.) Now, should Lucy wish to find her  friend, she had to walk into town with the hopes she might encounter Roland somewhere along the way. She’d make her way through each of his familiar haunts and, inevitably, find him. Today, however, she was in luck for just as she was walking  out the door to begin her quest, Rebecca returned only to inform Lucy that she had just left Roland down by the road.

This is why the quietest Turner sister could be found rushing down the road in a rather uncharacteristic fashion.

“Roland!” she called, seeing his figured ahead of her. “Roland!” she called again, smiling when she finally turned back and spotted her. 

“I’ve done something that I need your assistance with,” Lucy said when she finally reached him. “And I can only assume you will be terribly proud of me, though it was undoubtedly not the best thing to do, given the circumstances,” Lucy paused before she continued.

“I suppose one of my sisters might have informed you that Mr. Persimmons has convinced himself I am not one of his host’s daughters but instead a housemaid? Well, I don’t know exactly what came over me, but I’ve told Mr. Persimmons I am also a spy that was sent into the Turner household by Admiral Allerdale, posing as a housemaid. And now if I am to continue this ruse, I shall need your help.”
